Please Help a Newbie :-) -- Questions on Pattern MIDI Data
2007-03-08 by Donn
Greetings all... I'm just starting to dig a little deeper into the command stations (the canned stuff can keep you busy for quite a while ;-) 1) Regarding the file in the group -- "rEalm's XX-7 Data.zip": What is the required command station ROM setup (so that if I try some of the downtempo patterns, I'll get the same results)? IE, what ROM is in slot 0, slot 1, etc. 2) Regarding the above, does it matter if the ROMs are in the same slot order, or just that they are in the machine? - ie, does the pattern midi file address the individual patch for a specific track based on rom slot number and raw patch number, or does it specify an actual patch name that it will locate, wherever the ROM is installed? 3) Regarding the pattern files (*.mid), how are the ROM and patch identification data stored in the midi file for each of the 16 tracks? Is there some kind of special editor that would allow me to see the track-rom-patch data and easily edit it so that if I want to make a PX7 pattern work with an XL7 ROM, I could do so? (I tried using Able MIDI Editor 1.3 and it shows the note data OK, but the track data is assigned to one of the 128 General MIDI patches (in no apparent musically-relevant mapping). Any help you can offer a command station newbie would be most appreciated! Thanks much! Donn (donnwtwo) donnw2 (at) opticalscientific (dot) com
