hi fellow
just received the xl7,tried to upgrade the new o.s. v1.01 many
times.but failed.
i can goto the the step of:download request received.
and the midi out indicator of xl7 repeatedly flash, then i pressed
the "download os file to target" soft button on my pc screen. i
waited so long but the midi in indicator of xl7 never flashed.and the
e-loader software still remained and stuck in the status:download
request received.and the xl7 screen still displayed:searching for
o.s...._
then i quitted the e-loader,and tried to do the process again, but a
dialog box showed the following message when i re-open the e-loader:
"this application has unexpectedly quit.invocation of this java
application has caused an invocation target exception.this
application will now exit.(lax)"
can anyone help me?
thanks in advance.

pls help:can't upgrade new o.s.

It sounds like you don't have a good MIDI connection from the Computer
to the Device. All of your information indicates that data is getting
from the Device to the Computer, but not vice versa.

Are you sure you have connected both your Input and Output cable MIDI
cables correctly and have selected the correct MIDI Input and Output
ports in the E-Loader Device Configuration dialog?

If you choose 'Show Available MIDI Devices' in the MIDI menu, does the
XL-7 show up? That test requires bidirectional MIDI communication so if
things don't work in that test, they won't work for the OS Download.

What king of computer, what version of OS and what Java version are you
running? My guess is that you are running Windows ME, which is where we
have seen the most problems.

Win2K and MacOS 9.1 are the most tested and therefore the most reliable
of the platforms since those are what it was developed on :-). A lot of
our Beta sites use Win98 so it has been shown to be fairly reliable
there too. I'm working on resolving the issues with WinME, but
begrudgingly, since no one wants around here to put it on their
machine - neither developers nor testers :-(

yes,i'm sure i connected them correctly,and the e-loader showed
device config. as mpu401 midi i/o matched w/ the gravis,thats mpu401
compatible.but,do i need to adjust the default midi device no.?the
default is 0 at e-loader.

The Device ID is not used for OS Download, only for Sequence transfers.

The problems we have seen when quitting the application are independent
of the way the application works while it is running. In other words,
the application seems to work fine _until_ you try to exit, at which
time it can sometimes hang. That doesn't seem related to your problem.

If you can't get the 'Show Available MIDI Devices' window to display
your XL-7, then you definitely have some kind of problem (but you knew
that already ;-) Once we get your device to show up in this window, the
OS Download can then work.

What would help me troubleshoot this is if you could run the
application, open the Message Console (found in the Window menu) and
save the contents of that window to a file (using Save in the File
menu). Then send me that log.txt file (***off list***). I may be able to
see something in that log that is the clue to your problems.
