X-Board 49 and XL-7

X-Board 49 and XL-7

2007-01-07 by filipgrts

Hi,

i recently ditched my Yamaha CS6x and got a smaller E-MU X-Board 49
as controler for my XL-7.
does anyone know if there is already a template out for the XL-7 on the
X-Board? I'm trying to find the correct cc numbers to eg. assign filter
cut-off and frequency to one of the controler knowbs on the X-Board but
i cannot find any mention of the correct cc values for these in the XL-
7 manual?

X-Board btw has an excellent keybed which is semi-weighted and has
aftertouch - you can even run it on batteries :)

Try the standards GM CC numbers:
Filter Resonance (Timbre/Harmonic Intensity) (cc#71)
Brightness/Cutoff Frequency (cc#74)

Never tried with my beloved XBoard 25 yet, but it works when sent from a
padKONTROL (which is btw a very cool little unit to complement a Command
Station).

And yes, the lack of preset templates from E-MU - let alone for its own
gear! - is a tad disappointing.

A bad random number generator: 1, 1, 1, 4.33e+67, 1, 1, 1

Yep, that did the trick - it's a shame E-MU did not supply the X-
Board with templates for their own (albeit discontinued) hardware.
Btw i'm also using the new Korg Kaospad3 with the XL-7 which together
with a TC Electronics M300 and a Behringer UBFX1204 make for a
compact but powerfull setup.

Making a template for the XL-7 wouldn't be all that useful, since all
the controller numbers are assignable. Go into the 11th-14th screen in
the controller menu to both assign controller numbers or to discover
what they currently are set to.

10 XL7 free patterns for download. Contribution to XL7 users

2007-03-12 by Mauricio Balma

To all XL 7 users:

For downloading these patterns to your EMU XL 7 command station, you need the ELoader software installed on your computer with the proper USB ports configuration, in order to transmit them to the synthesizer.
The patterns are designed to be played with the XL7 ROM. They won´t sound properly with other
ROMS like the MP7, but soon I´ll give a pattern set for the MP7 owners.
the patterns are free, sometimes it´s healthy to share some of your hard work without being selfish.
the payment that I expect in reward is opinions about them. And maybe good karma...

  CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE PATTERNS
-I never work with factory presets. All my music is made with user presets. Also, I didn´t use the factory
patterns from the command stations. This is because the tweaks of the XL7´s presets are weak and sometimes useless,
so, sometimes I spend several days programming user patches, and experimenting with the patchcords.
I´m also reluctant to user Factory Arppegios. I only use user arps.
-The Eloader doesn´t allow to transmit patches with USB. So I was forced to work with only factory presets.
But I know you can improve them with your creativity and modifying them with user presets and even other ROMS.
Also, I was forced to work only with the XL7 presets, excluding the other ROMS that I own.
These limitations could affect the sound richness and variations of the patterns, because each ROM has a different style,
and combining them gives a wider spectrum of sound to your compositions.

-Instead of the previous limitations, I was forced to create at least one user patch, for the trance patterns. The XL7 doesn´t have
a single phat strong kick, so I had to attach a programmation for a USER KICK PATCH for these 4 patterns. The user kick preset must be
located on the track 1.
For the lazy ones, the other patterns are ready to be played just with the sequence downloader operation.
I hope to receive feedback about the patterns. Sometimes, I spend two days composing just one pattern, and I use several synths with the
EMU Command Station, working with VA synths and samplers.
These patterns took me around 2-3 hours each one. I´m sure that a lot of EMU users can improve them easily.
And I hope to help somebody with them, the goal is not just downloading them and press play, is good to have a perspective
of other mind from some weird country, just at your hands ready to be studied, and modified.
  GENERAL SETTINGS:
  MASTER VELOCITY CURVE: linear
MASTER TRANSPONSE: +00
FX MULTIMODE CONTROL. use mater settings
MIDI MODE: multi CHANGE: accepted

If somebody has problems with the patterns specially with the Trance ones, let me know.
By request, I can post MP7 patterns, or even, Beat Garden patterns.
Hope you like them. you´ll notice that the have some dramatic or nostalgic feeling.
  Pda:
By the way, I love the EMU Command Stations, but I HATE EMU as a company, because they NEVER refunded
me $160.00 for a faulty ROM that I purchased on the EMU site, despite all my requests and my "loyalty"
to their products.

Maybe you could upload to the files section 'Command Station Data' or
maybe create a new folder?
Not sure how much space is available these days..
Im right up for playing now as ive just got the Motu 828mkII working
on my main PC, what a cool device that is :o)
My big Soundtracs mixer has got to go though :o(
It just been used by someone else to record some track to "bring our
boys back from afghanistan" or something like that.
Not sure thats all about, bizarre.. i didnt ask to many questions.
Anyone need a nice great sounding analogue vintage 16:8:2 mixer?!
Its not that big!

Cheers
Gonz
