I just ran across mention of a set of 64 XL patches done by Sean Wilhelmsen called "Fat Lead" (and another set of 20-some bonus patches from the UK). They're both obviously long gone from the graveyard that is now the Emu site. Does anyone know if these were incorporated into either the XL-7 patch set or the XLv2 ROM patches? And if not, where I can find them now? Not that I really need more patches, but...I'm curious.

It was in a couple message board posts (not here) from two or three
years ago, maybe more. Just ran across them at random, was curious.
One of them mentioned two presets ("E P I C" and "Matrix") from the UK
batch, and there are two presets with the same names in the XL7 ROM,
so my guess is that the UK and Sean Wilhelmsen banks were included (at
least in part) when they revamped the XL1 presets for the XL7.
I should look at the extra XL7 bank, and some of the old XL1 presets.
It's not a big deal, it's easy enough to program new sounds from
scratch. I just like hearing what other people have come up with.

There are approximately 256 patches in the Xtreme Lead 1 that are not
replicated in the XL-7's four ROM banks. I spent an afternoon one day
going through and figuring that out and collecting those patches into
two XL-7 banks. They're in the Command Station Data folder in the
Files section of this group, under the title "XL-1 Unique Patches for
XL-7".

Do the presets still point to the instrument numbers from the XL1, or did you re-map them to the XL-7 instruments? According to the manuals, the XL-7 is missing all the instruments between Cymbal 14 and Misc 27. Is that just a typo in the manual, or are those instruments really missing? The ROM I have in my PX-7 is identical to the MK-6 ROM, which has all the instruments that are missing from the XL-7 list, but it doesn't seem to have the presets in your XL1 file either. (got it used, with the extra ROM installed, just earlier this week... still in sonic shock :) so I might just have missed something) AL --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Mibrilane <mibrilane@...> wrote:

I started with the "XL1 Patches for XL-7" patches (4 banks) which are the Xtreme Lead patches re-mapped for the XL-7. I then went through each group and eliminated the duplicates from the Xtreme Lead patches. So, every patch in the XL1 Unique bank should work fine - they work fine for me. :D > The ROM I have in my PX-7 is identical to the MK-6 ROM, which has all > the instruments that are missing from the XL-7 list, but it doesn't > seem to have the presets in your XL1 file either. (got it used, with > the extra ROM installed, just earlier this week... still in sonic > shock :) so I might just have missed something) As far as I've seen, the MK-6 is a variant of the Pure Phatt sound set, not the Xtreme Lead sound set. I've got an MP-7 ROM, which is yet another Pure Phatt variant with different presets than the Mo'Phatt module.

Sorry, bit of a typo (or minor brain death)... I meant XK-6, not MK-6... As it turns out, it's the V-Lead v2 ROM I have, and it's not entirely the same as the XK-6 ROM. While the presets and instruments are the same, my ROM seems to have different Riffs, and they're in a different order. Which was the cause of my problem with the XL-1 presets... I couldn't get the BTS presets to work properly, until I checked the preset "Audition Riff". Most of the BTS presets from the XL-1 unique set had the Riffs mapped to other non-BTS Riffs. It was while sorting that out that I discovered this ROM's Riffs list is different from the other ones. The presets were calling the Riff # from the XL-1 table, but getting a different Riff on the XLv2 table. Interestingly, the sticker on the ROM identifies it as XROM1 (the XK-6 ROM), but it comes up on the display as just XROM, and as mentioned the RIFFs list is different. The ROM ID=14. I'll post the Riff-order list in the files section. And when I finish tweeking the presets, I'll post the versions translated for XLv2 ROM. Isn't ROM ID 14 the standard XL-7 ROM? > Interestingly, the sticker on the ROM identifies it as XROM1 (the XK- 6
