16mb E4k simm

16mb E4k simm

2006-12-14 by Barnaby Andrews

Hello all,

Bit of a random one here, Ive got a 16mb simm for an emu E4K keyboard (I also have some other random rom expansion chips for the same range) it says "excelsior" on a sticker on the chip but it came with an emu "orbit phatt" document which contains a list of its sounds. I have compared this chip to a world expedition rom chip I have for my MP7 (which havent got round to installing yet) and they look pretty damm similar. The potentially very stupid question you can probably see coming is can I use this chip with my MP7, it says in the document that it is compatible with all EMU EOS samplers, dont suppose this incldues the command station range. If not does any one have any idea roughly what such an item would be worth?

MAny Thanks

No, you can't use it with your MP7 - only with actual samplers
running the EOS operating system. That would be the E-Synth, E5000,
E6400, Emulator IV, EIV Ultra, and EIV Platinum.

As for worth, the Orbit/Phatt Sessions ROM (what you have) and the E-
Synth ROM (the other one for EOS samplers) are relatively infrequent
on eBay, so they should probably fetch between $150 and $250. If you
sell it, I'd start the auction at a relatively low value ($100 or so)
and let the market determine the final value. And no, I'm not saying
that because I've got an EOS sampler and I'm looking to score a deal
(I don't) - it's just that you don't want to price yourself out of
any possible market with an overly high starting value, since there's
likely not a group of previous auctions to examine and use to
determine a good market value.

In my opinion, starting the auction at $100 seems low, unless the e-
bay market for e-Mu ROMs has dropped in the past few months. (Read
the discussion about e-bat here in the archives.)

I believe within the past year, an E-synth ROM went for around $256.

I recommend testing the ROM if you are serious about selling it.

Good luck.

I only suggested that because I've seen an E-Synth Keyboard (ultra
rare, ultra great, and a full EIV sampler with an E-Synth ROM) go for
only $650, and a more or less maxxed out EIV Platinum sell for less
than $500. I don't think the market is there to ask high values for
hardware samplers and their accessories, but I could be wrong.

It's such a rare thing that it probably will sell for $250 or so, but
if he starts the auction there and it doesn't sell, then he's going
to be re-listing with ever lower starting values and burning listing
fees in the process.

Dont mean to quote you out of context but i paid £1500 for a Akai
S3000xl, another £200 for an effects board, proberly the same again for
the filter board another £200 for 32mb of simms.
This must of been around the early 90's i guess.
S/H S3000xl now is £100 (not exp i hope!) bottom price , simms ram you
cant give away
Gutted really, still a great sampler though with the filter board and
FX.
Same sort of thing with the MPC2kXL i would imagine though ive not
looked lately.
Just a i thought...

Agreed... I think he should start at around $!00. You are right,
folks have been moving to use E-Mu's Emulator X softaware as
opposed to their older hardware.
