MIDI start/stop using external device

MIDI start/stop using external device

2006-07-12 by Fab Claxton

Hi there,
I'm trying to use my Yamaha AW16G DAW to start and stop the patterns
on my XL-7. I can't figure out how to do this. I'm used to working
with MIDI, and I've already checked that the cable is hooked-up
properly (MIDI out on the AW16G to the MIDI in on the XL-7). All I
want to do is press 'record' on the Yamaha, which will trigger the XL-
7 to start playing. Sounds very simple, right? When I press 'record'
on the Yamaha - nothing happens at all. The XL-7 just sits there. What
setting on the XL-7 do I have to change in order for it to receive
MIDI start/stop messages from an external device?
Fab

Go to the MIDI menu and scroll to "EXTERNAL SONG START/STOP" and
change it to "accepted".

Cool, thanks. And this works for patterns as well as songs - right?

Re: MIDI start/stop using external device

I tested it out last night, and it worked. But I also found out that
the problem wasn't with the XL-7. The "EXTERNAL SONG START/STOP"
function was already set to "accepted". I had to change one of the
settings on the AW16G to send MIDI start/stop messages. This
function has always been set to "on" whenever I've started the AW16G
in the past, so I took it for granted that it was the same this time
(and that the problem lied with the XL-7). Thanks for your help
Mibrilane.
