Bad Power Supply?

Bad Power Supply?

2006-06-02 by robotchas

Looks like my power supply - or a connection inside it - has gone bad.
My XL7 frequently reboots itself and now won't even complete the
bootup process before restarting.

Anyone else experienced this? Is there anything else that could be
causing it? I knocked the power cord some time back and the socket
itself came loose within the case; I glued it in place and that seemed
to fix the issue at the time, but I suspect that some connection or
solder joint got flexed and has since gotten worse.

Anyone know how much a replacement power supply should cost? Or how
difficult it is to fix a bad connection in one?

Emu has handed off repairs on their hardware to someplace in Florida,
but I don't want to mail the unit cross-country so I'm hoping I can
get it fixed locally (I'm in LA but moving to SF in two weeks).

If you can find someplace to order the power supply, it'd be really
easy to swap it out yourself. I'm guessing, though, that you just need
the leads resoldered. Depending on your handiness, you could do that
too, or any electronics shop could.

It might be your power supply, but I'd reseat simms, check cables,
make sure power cord is snug/try a duifferent one, etc. first.

A few yeara ago my P2500 was doing random reboots--after 5 minutes,
1 minute, etc. I never did find out which solution solved the
problem because I did all the above checking at the same time.

It may be the power supply, but check these things out first--that
is, if you havem't done them already.
