I was going to ask the list what everyone does with the multisetups,
since most (all?) of this info is stored with the pattern anyway. the
manual is a bit short on emphasis of this point, but saving a pattern
stores all the global effects settings, mix settings & so on.... in
fact, all the stuff you use the multisetup for on a regular proteus
box with no sequencer.
I was going to ask.... but then I sort of answered my own question. I
use the multisetup to establish a base set of presets, effects
settings & mix for a new pattern.
thus, I have multisetups for pieces that require parts to be routed to
subs, or for which I have a particular effects setup in mind, or a
selection of presets that are close to what I think I need for the job
in hand. an example might be the creation of a drum part, with the
part being built up using several channels (to ease editing, say) &
then later combined onto a single track &/or channel.
then I can save the edited pattern & forget about which multisetup it
originally used.

I discovered a neat trick with the arpeggiators... I set the arpeg up
with the latch enabled, & to play a pattern. then I put a single,
non-sustained, note event at the start of a track. this switches the
arpeg on.... but when the pattern loops around & the note plays again,
it switches the arpeg off again. & so on. the arpeg comes & goes on
the odd-numbered iterations of the pattern. unless you mute the track,
of course....

duncan.

(1) Multsetups save:

• Preset/Volume/Pan/Arp assignments for each of the 32 MIDI channels.
• Multisetup Name
• ALL Controllers menu parameters
• ALL Global Menu parameters, except…
User Key Tuning Tables
• ALL Arp Menu parameters, except…
User Arp Patterns
• ALL MIDI Menu parameters, except…
MIDI Program Change->Preset Map

This is far more than what is normally saved in patterns. I recommend
scrolling through each of the submenus listed above to see what's
saved. For example, (a) Viewing Angle [a Global parameter] gets saved
in multis; (b) Trigger, Knob, and Footswitch assignments get saved
[Controller settings]; (c) Arp/Riff MIDI Out [Arp settings] gets
saved; etc..

(2) I typically have special setups which have different
configurations of MIDI I/O [track/channel & clock settings]. If I am
working on a project, I usually do a quick save [named something like
2006-04-20] tomake sure I have **all** settings saved.

Among others, I have specialized settings saved as templates for
certain tasks, such as:
• Riff Record - allows me to easily record riffs into patterns
• 16 Tracks->Ext - a multi which works with some of my pattern
templates which have tack data setup to route data to external gear
• Electronica 2006 - which has triggers and controllers set up for
live performance of arps.
• Sonar as Master - has MIDI I/O & Clock settings so that my E-Mu
slaves to Sonar
• Recorder Reset - starting point template for track by track
recording primarily for use with my Casio DH-100 MIDI Sax which only
transmits on channel 1 [guarantees rechannelize is on; often I have
it off]
• RA-30 # 1 - for quick tunes when I have the E-Mu sequencer driven
by by an "Intelligent Arranger"
• Factory Setup - for when I muck up things so badly that its just
easiler to start fresh

Some use multisetups to configure controllers for use with software
synths.

(3) I am currently working on developing a live performance modality
for a piece where some triggers-->arps are latched and other triggers-
->arps aren't. Keep in mind, that although there are only 16 buttons,
you can also switch back and forth between track mode and trigger
mode. So you can not only turn up to 16 arps on with triggers, you
can also mute and unmute 16 tracks--each of which can have data on up
to 16 midi channels.
