routing external audio into the mp7

2006-01-05 by antret

hi folks!

just got my mp7 today! quick question: it seems from the manual that
one can route external audio (eg, from a korg emx) into the XX-7
series, but it is not very clear to me yet. is it simple? or as
complicated as they make it sound. so far ive been impressed with how
easy it is to get around on this thing

thanks!

anthony

There are no audio inputs on the Command Stations (or any E-mu module, for
that matter).

Try looking up messages- 13537, 13539 & 13540 in the group. I think they may answer
your question.

Hi
You can use the sub outputs as inputs!!??? (yep it sounds crazy..)
The sub output sockets are stereo sockets, so there is a tip, a ring
and a sleeve connection on the plug.
If you route an internal signal to one / both of the sub outs it
appears on the tip of the plug.
Then you can then send a signal back in on the ring connection of the
plug. This gets mixed back into the main buss outputs after the FX.
So you can either use it as an insert point to use some external FX,
or just feed an external signal back in.
There are a couple of issues for me though using it like that..
Theres no pan on the signal coming back so you have to either do it
it stereo or have a mono signal coming back split between the 2 sub
inputs. You will just get the returned signal on either the left or
right main outputs otherwise.
Theres no gain control either coming back so you have to set the
level on the gear your feeding into the command station.
I found the inputs a bit to sensitive for my use, though there are
work arounds..
Hope that makes sense
Gonz

The signal routing in there does get a bit of getting used to, i found
it confusing when i got my XL-7.
Just the way it is i guess..
The command station sense's that you've pluged in a jack as well so you
might not see 'sub 1' or 'sub 2' in the routing menu for a few seconds.
Have fun

I forgot about the sub outs having effects return ability. That's a "duh"
moment for sure.

easily forgotten that one, wouldnt of thought most people would even
use it like that.
Setting the levels up is a pain anyway..

im sure its not an ideal setup, but i was looking for a quick and
dirty way to monitor some other 'grooveboxes' when im not near the
mixer. i havent actually tried it yet, so it may be too much
hassle..... i'll find out soon enough!

just watch the levels coming back in, it might rip your head off if
you not carefull..
I tryed it with a waldorf pulse, theres no global output volume with
that, its all on a patch by patch basis.. i gave it up in the end as
it was to much work to go through and edit all the sounds.
Other synths and stuff should be ok though.
