Help, playing the command station's patterns on a software sequencer?

Help, playing the command station's patterns on a software sequencer?

2005-12-29 by sincultura13

Hi, I need some help...

I've had my Command Station for about two year and half now and use
it as a module and midi controller... I've given up on learning how
to use it's sequencer to program drums. I need the matrix window on
software sequencers to edit. I tend to get overwhelmed with midi and
try to play things live, tweak midi notes if needed, print wav and
sequence audio… I had this idea of sequencing midi loops the same
way I sequence audio to be able to load then to the Command Station
to use live… I finally have some free time to give it a go...

I want to learn how play the command station's patterns from the
software sequencer (Logic 5, pc), edit them there, and then load
them to the command station for live gigs or print wav to sequence
as audio...

I know this probably has been discussed to death here... but I can't
find it in the archive or in the manual. Could someone post a link
to a thread and/or post the page I should refer to in the manual to
read up on the subject?

Thanks in advance...

For drums:-
Well you can create a drum map (i used to use cubase, guess logic has
the same?) in Logic using its drum editor (it does have one dosent
it??)
Label up your drum names and asign note numbers to them.
Most kits start at C1 (Kick) with is note number 36.
Some quick examples:-

http://www.voidaudio.net/percussion.html

The emu wont match these drum maps exactly so you will have to work
it out, which aint a bad thing.. ;o)
Make sure there all on the same midi channel, and then once you've
set up the command station correcly (and the midi cable..) you can
write drum tracks in your software in real time.
Then you can either record them directly into the command station by
syncing it to midi clock or save in logic as a midi file and transfer
it to the command station using E-Loader.
This works the other way round as well.
The same also for non drum tracks in your seq.
Then you could record the output from the command station back into
logic, again synced via midi clock. (look in the manual)

Hope that help a little

Thanks...

I checked the links... I was able to refresh my memory and got the
midi connection up and going. The thing I don't remember is how to
program an event in logic to change the presets on the squence... I
have three roms in my command station (xl-7, pop, and drum). Where
can I find on the manual information about this? I found on page 45
(xl-7 rev.f) that the MSB for the Xl-7 roms is 14 where can I find
the id# for the other roms?

I tried creating an index to the archives to answer question s like
this. Try the following path:

--Files http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/files/
----E-Mu LAW [Links to Archived Wisdom]
------ROM IDs (and other technical stuff)
--------List of ROMs in numerical order.

If others search the archives and find useful info that could be
linked in the E-Mu LAW Index:

(1) copy the link the link to the message
(2) give it the subject heading E-Mu Law
(3) write some key terms or a short description of the info.

I can search for these as time permits and generate the html docs
for the Index. The archives is a wealth of info, but the yahoo
search engine leaves much to be desired.

So far, I have put up three Index entried as samples.

Hope this helps.

You need to create an environment Multi-Instrument object and then go to
Custom Bank Messages to set the MSB/LSB for each ROM bank. You can get the
MSB/LSB from the XL itself by choosing a preset from each ROM and pressing
the "Audition" button.
