Can we delete/compress some of the files in the files section?

Can we delete/compress some of the files in the files section?

2005-10-15 by Mibrilane

Why, you ask?

Well, I've got two files to upload that are zipped versions of my
"Unique XL-1 Patches" for the XL-7 - these are banks that are only
the XL-1 presets that are not duplicated in the XL-7 ROM in some way.
Why waste 4 user banks loading in the standard set of XL-1 presets?
This allows you to have the XL-1 presets loaded up and still have 2
free user banks for save your own presets.

Each file is 28 kb and yet I can't upload either one because there is
no space left in the group's files section. There are quite a few
unzipped PDF files in there. I one or more of you folks that uploaded
files can delete the file you uploaded and replace it with a
compressed copy, I can upload these nifty patch banks. It took me a
while to whittle these down - why should anyone else have to do it?

Of course if anyone wants me to email them directly with the two
patch bank files, I will. :D

LETS VOTE ON WHAT TO DELETE - there seems to be stuff that seems
almost entirely useless ... it is probably too old and the member(s)
might even be gone now - I mean you sound like you are getting really
really really conservative on memory - WHICH I LOVE - btw - and you
should still keep that going because it is good to be that way - but
stuff can be deleted too - (MAYBE) - just a thought - just trying to
help out everyone in general - please don't get offended if your
stuff is there -

My thinking is that most of the PDF manuals can be zipped from 4-5mb
down to 3-4mb. A megabyte here or there saved means we can share more
files in the files section.

I was able to upload those files to the AllEmuSynths group, I think,
back in March, so they're available there. But this is the "main" XL
group and I want to share my efforts. :D

Well another idea might be to get three more seperate forums so we
all in general have more memory to utilize ... one for each of the
stations - we can all type here but if we want we can go to a forum
and utilize the memory on the other forums - what do you think ?

I remember my first Mac (an SE/30) had an 80Mb HD way back when, and
it seemed to be palatial. Now it's barely enough to hold anything of
substance. :-(

Anyway, I uploaded those XL-1 patches files. :D
