Native Rom is removable, right?

Native Rom is removable, right?

2002-01-11 by GALASSIA 303

Is the native Rom in MP7 fully removable and substituted for any other from
Emu's line, like the Beat Garden or the Xtreme? I really find this soundset
quite narrow in scope and variety of sounds, and not what I expected (I must
admit, however, that I got the MP over the XL mostly because of the
colour...)
I have already sold the Rom which is inside of it, but I'd like to make sure
the Rom is not hardwired to anything, and that the machine will boot up
regularly with another Rom in its place, the Protozoa for example, or the
ZR, or any other.
Obviously, I know I'd lose the sounds of the patterns.

If there are some sounds that you like in that ROM you can just
expand the Command Station by adding any ROM in the 3 available
expansion slots. If you remove the "native" ROM, the module will not
sound since the presets point to that particular ROM.

Yep. You'll probably want to copy the factory banks of the new ROM down
into your user locations, because they'll all point to the MP-7 and
won't make any sound. Copy bank is somewhere in the save/copy menu.

PS. though you don't *have* to remove it to add more unless you want to
sell it or something.

And Guitar Center is advertising a rebate program,
buy an XL7/MP7 now and get a free Protozoa card...
he said looking at a 2 month old mp7 with a ZR installed.

Actually Jeff, I was at my local GC this past weekend and the ad
say's "Free Proteus Expansion ROM" not Protozoa because they list it
as a $349 value which we all no is a 32mb ROM and the Protozoa is a
16mb ROM with a lower retail value.

Double check the ad and let me know if you read it the way I did. My
GC booklet was picked up in Maryland.

Jeff,

On this one, you should call your salesman @ GC and see if he/she
(gotta be PC)will honor your purchase or give you the promotion for
your less than 2 month old purchase of the MP-7.

My situation was similar after buying the P2K in the late summer
of "99". There was a promotion for a free ROM which in my case was
the 16mb Protozoa a month after my purchase. I received a call from
my salesman alerting me of the ROM deal. I then asked him about
upgrade possibilities to the Techno ROM that I really wanted and he
said no problem. I picked up the new Rob Papen ROM just paying
the "cost" difference.

It's little things like that that make repeat customers so less than
a year later I went back and got the XL-1. (Don't you just love the
little "Thank You" cards that they personally send you?)

I called my salesman who called E-MU, it's a Protozoa. <shrug>

Site was down for awhile on my end. That's a pretty big typo on GC's
part! Did your booklet say what mine did? You really need to talk
to them(GC)about it.

Heh... email crossing paths. Yup, I did call this afternoon. You send a
rebate style coupon to EMU (with a sales receipt). So this one is outside
the hands of the dealers. This kind of factory perk is usually not
retro-active, but I'm going to give it a shot.

At least someone at EMU is paying attention to the lack of meat and potatoes
sounds in the box. ;-()

Yup... music stores are one of the few places where a long term cash carrying
customer can dicker within the stores cost structure. Somehow though, I
don't quite see EMU applying the "dealer cost" difference between the old ZR
price & the new ZR price to the [new] price of, say, a World Expedition ROM.

Sheesh, that made my head hurt. ;)

Yup.

LOL! A musician with money *is* an oxymoron...

The add in the booklet reads:

	"...free Proteus ROM expansion board...
	- A $349 value!
	(See store for details)"

So it's generic; and (ahem) slightly misleading. ;)
