voltage conversion

2005-01-20 by kide krazy

I brought a xl-7 over from the states and was
wondering if I could just stick a kettle lead(uk plug)
in the back of it. The xl-7 says on the back "100-240
VAC 50/60 hz 1a" so it seems like I would be fine
and not have to purchase a voltage converter. But I
want to make sure. Thanks for any help, can't wait to
try this thing out!!

I bought a used XL-7 from the USA on eBay, to run in Australia. We
have the 240V British power system here. The kettle lead works fine.
Some of the discussion on this group suggests that the extra heat
generated might be detrimental, so you might want to reread these
posts.

Yeah, the XL7 can be run at 240 (if i'm right that's what you guys at the UK use); we here at Chile use 220 and i had no problem with my XL7.

But....

It seems that the transformer generates more heat while converting from 220 to 110. So the unit get's a couple of Cº hotter in 220V countries. Using an external voltage adaptor drives the heat problem away from the XL7 and (we suppose) that should add to stability and working life.

The only difference between the USA/UK revision, is the plug on the
kettle lead. The units are the same in all countries AFAIKT.
