upload patches

2005-01-16 by thomaspotts666

Hi, anyone know of a free application for uploading patch data from
my MP7 to my PC?

Also does anyone know where I can get spares (data wheel and several
buttons) in the UK?

Cheers

If it is just Patch Data - you can use any PC sequencer - nest to last
page under MIDI fuctions - SEND MIDI SYSEX DATA - record it ontp a
track in the seq

Call Emu tech support. Or (that parts are small) call EPR pro (813)
232 - 3907 (USA)

Ok thanks Ed,
Can I then load back in the presets at a later date? What I'm
planning to do in save everything and initialize as its playing up a
lot. How can I be sure it will work!? Really don't want to lose all
my patches.
Tom.

Ay Tom ye are welcome

- you load patch data by playing back the SEQ track of recorded sysex
data

You are in essence putting your patches in theoretical jeopardy even
if you are careful - however once you know your system works as
desired - you will be able to manage it with no loss. To verify -
upload and then reload (1) patch only. On the MIDI SYSEX data page -
hit the CURSOR button to move it to the bottom position - there you
can specify saving single patches or banks. Save one patch - change
the title of patch at that position in the XL7 - and then load it back
to see if the original name comes back -

I think you should do this first with the patch at 000 Bank 1

good luck!

Ed

Just uploaded this really easy to use sysex app for the PC. Works a
treat, ive used it for years. You can also create your own ini file
for it so you can send patch requests and the like..
If i get some spare time (humm.. )l'll create one for the command
station.
Also midiox is another full on midi utility

You can try to go to Midiox.com.

Re: upload patches

Also, some software sequencers have sysex utilities built in. Even
early versions of Cakewalk (pre-Sonar, pre-Digital Audio Pro) have
the ability to transmit and receive sysex banks.

Sonar 3 can save 8192 sysex banks per file.

Cakewalk Professional for Windows 3.01 (1994) has a sysex bank view
and can handle up to 256 banks per file.

With Cakewalk Express you can record, edit, and playback sysex data.
You can also play embedded sysex banks (up to 512 banks), but it
does not have a sysex bank view.

If Midi-Ox works for you, however, that maye be all you need.

Hope this helps.

What OS do you use with dumpster? The doc file says it was written
for Windows 3.1. On my XP, I get the VBRUN300 not found error.

Note: In the Dumpster help file, it says to make sure you have a
backup of data in another form before using (tape, pencil and paper,
etc.)

VBRUN are the Visual Basic runtime files found on the web and used as the code library during the software development.

Re: Dumpster

2005-01-17 by gonzinigonz

Hi
Windows 98, not tryed it on my laptop yet as i dont have a midi port
available.. yet...
If you want to try dumpster, download the dll from somewhere and copy
it to you windows system folder. That should do the trick.
Ive never had a problem with dumpster crashing or not being able to
do a sysex transfer in either direction. If i had of, i wouldnt use
it :o)

Cheers

Re: Dumpster

2005-01-17 by steve_the_composer

Thanks. I successfully downloaded and installed VBRUN300 on the XP.
Dumpster does indeed work now. Well, sort of. It produces all kinds
of error messages, but it was able to receive and save a bank of 128
e-mu presets (P2500 with 000 millisecond delay between sysex
packets). I compared the file with the same data received by midi-ox
and the two files were identical.

Re: upload patches

2005-01-21 by steve_the_composer

I almost forgot--I beta tested a low-cost P2K patch editor that also
lets you manage banks of presets. Its not free, though. The
developer is asking $20.00. It might meet your needs. I seem to
recall the author had a demo version at a website that also had
screen shots and a link to purchase via paypal.

I will try to find the link, if you are interested in checking it
out.

Re: upload patches

2005-01-21 by steve_the_composer

OK--found the link:

http://members.aol.com/caldor2004/patchpro

As a beta tester, I ran the software on 12-controller p2k-based gear
(XL-1) and 16-controller p2k-based gear (P2500) with both win98se
and xp.

I just downloaded the demo and successfully got banks from my P2500
into the software.

NOTE: Although you cannot save the sysex banks with the demo
version, you can save a file using the EXPORT NAMES function. This
function supports Cakewalk *.ini format (useful for importing the
names of your presets--both ROM and USER--into your Cakewalk
configuration).

As for suitability for your gear/application you may want to put the
demo through its paces to see if it meets your needs.

Hope this helps.
