Favorite thing about the Command Station?

Favorite thing about the Command Station?

2002-01-31 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Hey all,

Now that most of us have had our Command Stations for awhile, and had time to learn them, what is everyone's favorite feature?

Personally, I think my favorite thing has got to be the sound quality over all. I've never had a synth that could accurately reproduce enough low end to shake the walls, yet still remain punchy and clean at the same time. Lots if times once you get a synth in the low end, it gets really floppy sounding (Roland), or distorts before you get it punchy enough (Yamaha). I've made some of my best basslines since I got the XL-7, and in a tenth of the time it used to take me getting it to sound right. Plus the sounds have a lot of space to them, I rarely find myself having to apply any drastic EQ or compresiosn to my XL-7 tracks in order to get them to sit well in mix.

The keypads are pretty rocking too, a nice change from playing a regular keyboard once you get use to them (and break them in a bit). Others?

Hmmm,

I think the favourite thing for me is the way it keeps my legs warm,
and the headphone jack is dead quiet with both low and high impedance
headphones. I've only had it a coupla weeks so the capabilities are
still rather mind boggling. I think the whole concept of having
presets that can combine miltiple instruments is pretty solid, though
this is my first synth so its all pretty new to me. I'd also like to
say that its been really bug free for me so far too (1.18).

Yep, i second that: I love the brushed, uncompressed, punchy sounds
of the mp-7 - that means: drums and perc. (the first decent conga
sound I heard on a rompler), basses, guitar wahs.
I am not so concerned about the variety of efx (only reverb and delay
routing is stupid though) and I really like their natural feel. Some
people worry about the quality of the fx but they somehow remind me
of the DP2 which I had years ago. I like the efx.
2. favourite: the expandability.- I use the ZR-76 board to go with
the mp-7 for bread and butter (wonderful piano). But for the rest, I
would be more than happy to have a better, less outworn bread and
butter ROM Card that stands up to the fresh sample quality of the
mp7, is there a Proteus 2500 Sound Card that can be used with the mp7
and has a better sound set than the ZR-76 board (except the piano,
veeeeery good!).
3. Knob interface: its more fun working with a real knob than with
menus. Still the ridiculously small screens are a serious limitation
to handling this box effectively.

Good as well: the sturdy built of the hardware, stable input and
output jacks, the gooseneck light, however, the pads are to stiff.
That results in having a heavy weight box.

Sequencer handling leaves a lot to be desired, so the best feature of
the mp-7 could be covered with the sound module mophatt.

I just traded in my 2500 for a MP-7, unfortunately to the best of my
knowledge anyway,
you can't get a ROM Card that has the 2500 sounds. It's more of a mixture or
combo
of several EMU modules, like the XL-7, MP-7, Proteus 2000, Planet Earth,
etc. I've
already asked EMU. My suggestion would be the World Expo and the Techno
Synth
ROM cards. That'll give you an huge variety of sounds that are probably
better than
the 2500. That's the route I'm going anyway, already have the Techno Synth
ROM
installed on the MP-7.
