Cubase 'muffles' xl7 midi tracks on start/stop

Cubase 'muffles' xl7 midi tracks on start/stop

2002-01-31 by tommy_trance

I've been unsuccessful syncing xl7 to cubase. It starts and stops
just fine the
first time around. But if I hit play on Cubase again a few of xl7's
MIDI tracks
get muffled while other tracks are normal. So then I go into those
tracks and
switch to another preset then switch it back to the original preset
(as if I had 'shake it'and tell it to wake up) and it would play
okay. I would have
to do this everytime as a workaround but it gets to be a hassle. I
am slaving my
XL7 to Cubase. Has anyone else seen this before? I am very new to
Cubase so I'm
pretty sure it's a user issue. Here is my setup:

MidiSport 2x2
XL7- do not transmit Midi clock

Cubase
Sync Source-
Timecode Base: Intern
Tempo Base: Intern

Sync Out-
MIDI Timecode: On (Out-A USB MidiSport 2x2)
MIDI Clock: On (Out-A USB MidiSport 2x2)

Thanx
Peace in da Middle East!

Re: XL7 master => no muffle

I bypassed the whole 'muffled' issue by setting the XL7 as master
and Cubase as slave (which I would rather avoid altogether since I
heard Cubase is more stable acting as a master) but hey..whatever
works! I am still curious as to why I can't slave XL7.

Re: [xl7] Cubase 'muffles' xl7 midi tracks on start/stop

I use Cubase and the XL-7 all the time together (with MIDIsport 2x2 occasionally as well). Here's some more thing to check out/try:

- Make sure you don't have the Thru feature activated in the MIDI System menu of Cubase.
- In the Controllers menu of the XL-7, set the Base Tempo to 'EXT" (why is this in the controllers menu?)
- If you've used E-loader to load a pattern into your computer, and then into Cubase, I find it best to erase everything EXCEPT the note data in Cubase. That way you're not retriggering set up info everytime you restart the song (probably your problem). Then if you make additional settings to the volume and pan info on the XL-7, save it as a new Multisetup.
- Additionally, once I get a Cubase song happening, I'll copy my XL-7 pattern to a new User Bank location (usually the very last one to avoid confusion) and then delete all the note data from the Pattern. That way the XL-7 isn't playing back any notes from it'[s internal sequencer, sicne it's all controlled from Cubase now.
- Try hitting stop three time on the XL-7 to restore the inital pattern settings befoer you hit play on Cubase.

Hope these help some, let me know if you still get errors!

I experienced the same problem and didnt find a good workaround for
that. Its a pain in the neck and is another omission (?can you say
so?) to your workflow.
