Flash memory / Jog wheel questions

Flash memory / Jog wheel questions

2004-09-15 by Fab Claxton

Hey gang,
The one thing I don't like about the XL-7 is the lack of removable
storage (ie: SmartMedia cards, Zip disks, etc.). Has anyone had any
problems with the internal flash memory? For instance, has anyone
ever turned on their xx-7 to discover that all (or some) of their
patterns/songs have disappeared? I'm probably just worrying for
nothing, but still.....

Also, does anyone else hate the jog wheel as much as I do? When I
turn the knob slowly, sometimes it doesn't even change the preset
number at all. If I speed it up even slightly, it jumps all over the
place (ie: from Preset 1 - bank 0 to Preset 115 bank 3). It's
ridiculous. I don't remember having this problem before I upgraded to
OS 2.0, but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. The problem seems to
be at its worst when I first turn the machine on. After about 10
minutes, the job wheel seems to become a bit more responsive (but not
much). Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is there a way to
improve it (ie: using Thin Events or some other program function)?

Thanks everyone,
Fab

Same here, does seem to be a bit crazy to of not included some kind
of memory card back up for your seq's and prest data.
No experience with the flash ram..

Might need a clean with some contact cleaner. Ive had problems with
encoders before that start acting randomaly. Clean them up and the
problem vastly improves (if its not physically damaged)
Could even be a dry joint on the pcb.
My encoder works fine using v2.0.
The USB socket on my main board wasnt soldered correctly, it would
flop around when you moved the cable. Its fine now.
Clean it first and see if it improves.

JOG WHEEL:

Fab - it is not the software - it is the hardware. You have hit upon
the weakest part of the Command Stations. The best and easiest (and
only) solution is to replace the pot that is underneath the wheel.

The company EPR is handling all E-mu repairs - and/or you can also
order the part from them. I just ordered 2 - they were like $12 each.
I think it should not be too difficult to replace the pot - if it is I
will post tips - I am doing mine in the next week or so.

EPR - 813-232-3907

tell them: Emu repairs and you will be connected.

good luck - and soon you will be digit-clicking with predictable
linear accuracy.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
