Preset Categories

Preset Categories

2004-07-22 by Fab Claxton

Good morning,
Last night, I was creating some user presets. I had them on User Bank
0 - Preset 1 and User bank 0 - Preset 2. I wanted to give them a
unique Preset Category, so that I could easily find them when using
the Sound Navigator. So I called them "FAB". I used the Preset Edit
menu and created this new category in the "PRESET NAME" screen. The
first Preset (Bank 0, Preset 1) worked like a charm. So I did the
same thing for the second preset (Bank 0, Preset 2). I went into the
Preset Edit menu and changed the Preset Category to "FAB". Then, the
strangeness started. I listened to both Presets, and they were
exactly the same. They had different names (Kick 1 and Kick 2), but
they sounded identical (Preset 2 was the exact same as the Preset 1 I
had just created). So, I started the process again, thinking it was
something I did wrong. I made double-sure that I wasn't saving Preset
1 into Preset 2's spot - but the same thing happened again. What am I
doing wrong? Is there an easier way to assign a Preset Category (ie:
without making all the presets identical)? I know this sounds weird,
but could the fact that I used all capital letters to name my Preset
Category have something to do with it? (E-MUs preset categories are
all lower-case).

Weird! I name all my Presets with "rlm" as the category, never had any
issues. I'll try the uppercase bit though, see if that affects things at
all. Maybe try to test this again, using vastly different types of sounds?
Ala make a kick preset, then make a bass preset or something?

I have used my own categories (P2500-OS2.0) that include caps (Sax)
and symbols (K&") for prefixes, but not multiple presets. I will
give it a test. In the meantime, try something like F01, F02, F03,
etc.

It is possible that there is something going on with non-standard
names.

i did a preset called EXT>ER1 and it happens frequently that the preset for
the track changes itself... recently i take over to use the clean template,
but i try if its working better to writ presets without capital letters...
never thought this could be it

I tried it again, but this time I just used "fab" - no capital
letters. It worked fine. Weird......
