All of my XX-7 data available for download :)

2004-07-15 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Ok guys (and gals, if there are any), I've decided to post ALL of my XX-7
data for people to download. You can get it here:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/files/Command%20Station%20Data/

Why? Well as many of you know, I used the PX-7 primarily as my live
sequencer, and of course now and then in my studio tracks. However, I've
recently switched to doing my live sets with a laptop and Ableton Live
(boo hiss, I know, I know) and therefore I want to start using the PX-7 in
the studio from a clean slate. So, I backed up all my data, and then
wiped everything in the memory. :)

Anyway, the zip file contains all of my Presets, Patterns, and Multi's.
Here's some more info on all of those to make them easier to use if want
to:

- PRESETS
Banks 0 and 1 are completely full of my Presets, some I started from
scratch, some are slight tweaks on the Factory Presets, though most are
the results of hitting the Randomize Preset button repeatedly :) Bank 2
has some sounds in it if I remember correctly, though not many. Bank 3 is
blank except for the last 16 Preset slots. These are the Trigger Presets
I used for live percussion fills. If you load any of the "rEalm" Multi's,
and then put the Track Mutes in Trigger mode, these should be assigned
already.

Keep in mind that I have the XL-7, P2500, World, and Protean Drum ROMS
installed in my machine, so if you don't have one of those, then some of
the patches may not play back. Oh well, something's better than nothing
eh?

- PATTERNS
Bank 0 is all of my breaks and 4/4 Patterns, typically at 134-136 BPM's,
Bank 1 is downtempo stuff around 107-117 BPM's, and Bank 2 has a half
started DnB pattern :) Even if you can't load the Presets to play these
back as intended, maybe you'll be able to get some ideas from them, or use
the programming with your own sounds. In general my Patterns are
organized as follows:

Track 1 - BD
Track 2 - Snare
Track 3 - Closed HH
Track 4 - Open HH
Track 5 - Percussion/bongos
Track 6 - Percussion/shakers
Track 7 - Crash
Track 8 - Empty, or contains note ons each measure for triggering my old
SP808 loops (best to delete these).
Track 9 - Bassline
Track 10 - Pad
Track 11- Misc sounds
Track 12 - Leads
Tracks 13 to 16 - Empty or misc stuff

- MULTI'S
Some of these are specific to my needs, ala the SX templates, or the Live
(not as in Ableton) templates. Otherwise there's Multi's here for
controlling various softsynths via the Knobs in Program Mode.

Anyway, hope some of you find a use for this stuff, feel free to use it as
you will. If you use any of it as is, just give proper credit! :) Have
fun, and enjoy!

How to record one event (ex : program change) with xl7 sequencer

2004-07-16 by Chaumet guillaume

Hi everybody,

I would like to know how I could record some event like program change with the sequencer of my xl7 in order to control my multi effect M300 Tc elec. I know already how to control one instrument via midi sequencer with notes but i don't know to record event (cc) for external device.

Thank you

XL-7 vs Live 4

Hey Erik,

Now that you've had some time, would you mind elaborating on the strengths and
weaknesses of each of these two platforms, specifically with regard to live performance? I
know the ability to apply dynamics processing and incorporate samples was a big factor in
your decision, but I'm primarily interesting in the live sequencing angle myself.

I like my Command Station a lot and prefer hardware sequencers and synths in general,
but I've been keeping an eye on Ableton from the start and with v4 they've addressed
some of my biggest reservations about the software (namely, the lack of MIDI and the lack
of grid programming) and now I'm very tempted to pick up an iBook, Live4, and
Numerology (another very cool program). But I'm reluctant to go laptop, given the
immediacy of hardware, and am wondering what else I might be losing if I left my ComStat
at home (there's no substitute for dedicated buttons with LEDs).

You can email me directly if you think it's inappropriate for the group, but I bet I'm not the
only one here wondering about this.

Charles.

Hey,

Download the Ableton Live 4 demo. You can't save or render
audio with the demo, but it allows you to save the midi tracks that
you create.

Inexpensive way to create patterns for your command station?

;)
