X-Lead vs. X-Lead V2 ROM

X-Lead vs. X-Lead V2 ROM

2004-07-10 by _5ht

Good evening,

Anyone here know the difference between X-Lead and X-Lead V2 ROMs?
Currently V2 is listed on Emu's site, but patch content is not
provided. Help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I appreciate the feedback that was given re: best ROMs.
Protozoa is next on my list, and Beat Garden has been taken off. Now
it's between the above two X-Leads as the third ROM. And a Vintage
Collection if I can manage to find it.

X-Lead V1 is the ROM from the XL-1/XL-1 Turbo module. X-Lead V2 is the
ROM from the XL-7 Command Station. the presets are different (albeit
not much different) and the XL-7 patterns work with the X-Lead V2. if
you have a Command Station, go with the V2 for the pattern
compatibility. if you have a module, it matters little which one you
get.

Actually, that's not true. Both X-Lead ROMs are from the modules. The
XL-7 ROM (and its version 2: XROM) are the ones that go in the command
station. The X-Lead V2 just has a few updated presets to fix things
like extra hot filters and the like.

In order of preference for the command station:
1 - XROM (has an extra bank of keyboard presets)
2 - XL-7 (is designed for the command station knob layout)
3 - XLEAD V2 (in a pinch, these have the same samples)
4 - XLEAD (just an older version of V2)

i guess this is why i started with the XL-7 instead of one of the other
command stations!

Thank you for this information. I guess I will have to try the XLead
V2 and see how it goes.

Has anyone here worked with the X-Lead V2 in a command station, and
edited the presets? It is hard to believe these ROMs would be
incompatible (or not fully compatible for editing) across various
Emu products. :-(

I may have to give Emu a call as well. The XL-7 was my first choice,
but I am glad to have waited for the PX-7. I am shallow, and the PX
looks nicer.

You're not shallow, I think most people would agree with you. That yellow
is nasty. ;) IMVHO of course.
