ARP not working with external clock

2004-07-08 by Wesley D

Weird little quirk here. My Arppegiator is dead when I'm set to external. As soon as I switch to internal it works, otherwise it just plays one note and sucks.
Any help is appreciated.

Check the midi clock source and it's routing to and through the XL-7

Is the source of the midi clock (recorder, other synth, etc.) set to
transmit the clock externally? Is your midi signal router connecting the 2
devices and enabled for SYSEX (I think the clock is considered a sysex
message to a midi switch/router)? The XL-7 should display it's calculation
of the BPM of the midi clock on the from panel when set to tempo....

Re: [xl7] ARP not working with external clock

2004-07-09 by Aaron Eppolito

The XL-7 does not freewheel. If you're not sending it clock all the
time, it's essentially stopped (tempo is 0). Some sequencers send
clock all the time, some only when they're playing. You'll need to use
one that sends all the time or else your arps (and tempo based FX and
beats, etc) will not play when stopped.

Re: [xl7] ARP not working with external clock

2004-07-09 by Wesley D

was sequencing it with Sonar. I've since fixed the problem.
the wierd part is that is was working, as in getting tempo info, but the arp wouldn't play. Then upon tweaking no tempo info was getting sent at all, then I switched sonars sync option from audio to internal. seems to have been a glitch, sonar bugged out for minute, it's been doing that lately. I want Logic.

now I'm trying to figure out how to get the ARP recorded as notes. I've got the transmit option enabled, yet still my oh, snap, it's cuz I'm using a controller which is being recorded and the ARP info would come straight from the EMU.

So what is the best way to record arp info? send the controller to the emu and record everything from the main midi out? i'm gonna have to try this...

Thanks!

i have noticed the EMU won't save the midi routing settings in an empty
pattern.
It won't save the routing of "empty" tracks... hmmz. When you put data on a
track it seems allright

Hmm, maybe make those changes and save the current multisetup? I'm
actually not sure if multi's remember track routings or not, but that
would be my first choice if they do.

Set up the XL-7 for step recording, pushing the record-button three times.
Then select the track you wish to save the routing for. Turn any of the
knobs on the left (regardsless quickedit, program., volume or pan) and
switch to the next track, and so on.
This pattern can then be saved, as will the routing for the pattern (though
there is actually no data on the tracks).

Re: [xl7] setup the xl7 to always set channel assign to ext

2004-07-12 by Aaron Eppolito

This is the easiest way to set up a "template" pattern. Do be careful
though, it actually IS saving the data you've step recorded at tick 0,
but the list editor hides it from you. I'd recommend either step
recording a pan event of 64 (center) or volume at 100, as both of these
will get overwritten with real values when you save the pattern.
