My final round with the mp-7 - I´m tired!

2002-01-23 by heinrich22001

Thanx for all your help, guys,
may I get on your nerves once again?

This problem (see below) seems to be something different.
I checked back on the note list last night. What I see is:
The lengths of the notes have the value 0.00 016. (Does it mean, they
are longer than one tick? I recorded with quantize off). But I found
something weird: When I played back the drum groove from cakewalk via
the mp-7-box everything sounded fine - no notes missing. (erik, that
means no hihat close/open cutoffs, sometimes its affecting the
bassdrum, snare etc. as well). So I checked the bars where notes are
missing and found that notes that usually have the same position in
the bar, have moved to a different position in the bar with
the "missing" notes. Instead of - say - 14/1/32 - 14/2/32 - 14/3/32 -
14/4/32 they went:
14/1/32 - 14/2/32 - 14/2/232 - 14/2/238 - I moved them to the right
position to see if it works - it does! But the velocity still was
very low and I had to fix that as well.

Final point: Cakewalk played back fine while recording on the mp-7,
but the recorded results are moved notes with changed velocity in
some bars, but sometimes just as well missing notes.
One hint: Before I recorded the pattern I actually copied a formerly
recorded pattern to an empty pattern, just to have the settings, then
cut track 1 to clipboard to delete it, then record a new pattern on
track one. Is it possible that some information (except the settings
sure enough) still remains on the track when cutting it to clipboard?
Could these bits and pieces disturb the newly recorded track?

Sorry for the long posting. Maybe somebody knows whats going on here.
I am so tired with all this fixing and asking. I can´t make music
like that. I´m close to moving over to a simple machine thats working
at least for me.

Any suggestions are welccome.

Heinrich

Hi Heinrich,

Go into the note list and look also, if the length of the notes is
too low.
I had a problem with notes that were only on tick long in logic.
Importing
this lines into my mp-7 made the notes not play. The problem was,
that the
note on and off came on the same tick and the note didn´t play.
Actually
this was a mistake from logic´s midifile but your problem sounds
similar to
me. Try to make the events longer if they are only one tick long. If
the
problem persists, call the emu support hotline in the usa, these guys
do a
really good job and helped me solving some problems i had.

>Go into Note List edit and look at the velocities and note lengths
of the notes
that aren't playing back. Are the velocities too low, or the note
lengths
too long? Also, the HH's typically use a feature called Assign Group
to
allow open HH's to turn off closed HH's (although it has many more
uses than
just this). Check on page 178 of the manual to see what I'm talking
about.
Go into the Preset Edit mode for the Drum Preset that's >giving you
the
trouble,a nd check to see if that HH is assigned to a mono >group.
That
would explain why the note is silent, even though you can >still >see
it.
Check to see if you've got other drum sounds at the same >locations
>as the
quiet notes, my guess is that this is what your problem >is.
