Go into Note List edit and look at the velocities and note lengths of the notes that aren't playing back. Are the velocities too low, or the note lengths too long? Also, the HH's typically use a feature called Assign Group to allow open HH's to turn off closed HH's (although it has many more uses than just this). Check on page 178 of the manual to see what I'm talking about. Go into the Preset Edit mode for the Drum Preset that's giving you the trouble,a nd check to see if that HH is assigned to a mono group. That would explain why the note is silent, even though you can still see it. Check to see if you've got other drum sounds at the same locations as the quiet notes, my guess is that this is what your problem is.

I recorded a mididrumfile from cakewalk sonar on track 1 of the mp-7.
It contained - besides the kick, snare and some percussion - a
hihat and cymbal pattern with 16th. The file is definitely not
overloading the track, thers not much happening. Quantize during
recording was set to "off". Playing back the unrecorded file was no
problem at all. But after I recorded it, there are notes of the hihat
pattern without sound. On some part of the pattern only one. On other
parts more. No matter how often I tried this - allways the same notes
do not sound. When I play back the recorded file very slowly I
realize, the midi note seems to be there (or was it just a controller
event?), because I can see the green light on, but the sound of this
note is missing. I altered the quantize setting when I was playing
back the file from 16 to 32. But still the same. I changed the preset
kits - still the same problem. Is it a bug? I don´t think so, because
its so "regular". Did I miss something?

Any help is appreciated. I spent a lot of time last night in trying
to solve
this.

Heinrich

Hi Heinrich,

Go into the note list and look also, if the length of the notes is too low.
I had a problem with notes that were only on tick long in logic. Importing
this lines into my mp-7 made the notes not play. The problem was, that the
note on and off came on the same tick and the note didn´t play. Actually
this was a mistake from logic´s midifile but your problem sounds similar to
me. Try to make the events longer if they are only one tick long. If the
problem persists, call the emu support hotline in the usa, these guys do a
really good job and helped me solving some problems i had.

Damn, I love this board. You guys are really helpful. I will check
back on that and let you know if your suggestions will solve my
problems. Calling up the EMU support in the US would cost me a
fortune, as I live in Germany. Pity, its too far for having a cup of
coffee together, guys.
One thing I forgot to mention: I noticed the mp-7 receiving a
constant midiflow when I wanted to record a pattern - even if
cakewalk stopped, the red light of the mp-7 midi-in was flickering
all the way. When I changed to cubase 5, the midi signal was received
properly - say: light on when a signal came in. Strange, isn´t it?

Cheers
