Poll created, and intro.

Poll created, and intro.

2001-08-09 by sserendipity@newsfeeds.com

Hi all,

I was curious how many dash-7 users are on this list right now,
so I created a poll. So far, there are 11 of us, three of which are
emu reps, which I figure is just about the right ratio of users to
builders :>

Let us all know. Perhaps a little intro would be cool too. Here's
mine:

I'm using my new toy to write groovy downtempo music, and
jungle'n bass. monkeyradio.net / somafm.com / bassdrive.com sounds.

The xl-7 works as the master clock for an echoplex digital pro,
which I feed from my chapman stick ( www.stick.com ) - what I really
play. This way, I can lay down basslines melodies and grooves,
overdub, extend the loops and mangle them with effects, while keeping
in time with grooves I'm building on the pads and drums from the xl.

I quit my band last night - it wasn't going where I wanted :<
Rather than look for band mates right away, which hasn't seemed to
work lately, I think I'm going to start playing out on my own (gulp),
now that I can. (Hi guys, I just bought this shiny box that does a
better job than the three of you... :>))

Since the architecture is the same as the P2k, which I recently
owned, and was writing on, the process of writing a cool set is
shortened considerably - the maps over directly, though a few patches
are missing. (I also nabbed the P2k ROM before I sold it - selling
it as a XL- 1 turbo with a P2k faceplate.) I'm hoping to start
looking for gigs by October. I'll probably get sidetracked.

(Yes, an all singing, all dancing music machine; all I need now
is a bass drum strapped to my back, a harmonica, and cymbals tied to
my knees... Watch out.)

Nice Intro. Since your a former P2K user, how do you like the new way
you can navigate through preset edit using the COMMAND buttons? Its one
of my favorite new features over the P2K.

I haven't got to editing anything yet - It's only been three days :>
It does look like a lot less scrolling though - probably easier to
use than Sound Diver. I let you know when I've gotten deeper into the
unit.

Also a question for all - how do you turn local control off? I'm
using the xl-7 to feed Logic for my sequencing, before sending tracks
back in. The only way I've found so far is to set the track to one
I'm not using and turn the volume down.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Currently, the only way is to disable maybe one of the B channels (5th
screen
in MIDI) and set your keyboard to transmit on that channel (or set the basic
channel to the one you disabled).

There is no Local On/off feature in the XL-7. It's high on our list to
implement in upcoming OS feature releases.
