Yeah, I was on both lists actually, and although I sold my mc505 (and the
sp808) more than a year ago, I still moderate and frequent that list.

As for your question, I was going to ask the very same thing tomorrow!
Multisetups seem....well pointless really. Maybe it's just me too? I was
using just one Multisetup for everything, and then when I started hooking
the XL-7 up to a Micro Sync so I could integrate it with my tables, I made
another one that sets the tempo to EXT, and turns off the MIDI Thrus too.
But switching between Multis was causing me problems, in that the current
Presets are saved with a Multi too. So what ever Pattern you were on, the
presets from it would save as the defaults when you laoded the multi. Not
a bigd eal but I wold forget to power off tehn on after loading the multi,
so my patterns were playing with the wrong presets. My fault really, but
now I just set the tempo to EXT manually and don't mess with the multis.
If they saved only global, arp, and MIDI menu settings it would be better
I think.

Anyone else got a use for Multi's?

Can you please tell me the most useful purpases of the multisetups as I
don't see any purpose!

I remember you from the MC505 or SP808 group isn't it?

Thanks for your refreshing answer! I just have the box 2 days, worked
throught the complete manual, am an absolute expert, but still have
no clue about the multi's!

BTW: I also sold the 505 as I still think the sounds are crap (just
as the RM1x, excellent sequencer howver). Still own the 808Ex for
excellent effects and vocoder.

I just posted another question. Wanna give that one a try?

Thanks!

Richard

>>>Yeah, the mc505 is an excellent sequencer, but the expandability issue
kept me from buying another one when I had the money. Great sounds, but
hundreds of User patches later I was just not getting inspired by it
anymore. Beside, without my XL-7, I wouldn't be able to bug the hell out
of Aaron and Scott and any of the other Emu techs :)

I agree about the sp808 too. For the money that little beast has some
killer effects, those alone are worth the price of the box IMO. That by
far was the hardest piece of gear for me to sell, never crashed on me once
either! One of the most underrated pieces of gear ever. <<<

I just posted another question. Wanna give that one a try?

Yeah, I know what they save, but why? In the situation you describe,
couldn't you do the same thing with a Pattern? User arps and tunings
aren't saved with a multi, so setting up a "template" pattern would do the
same thing, no?

A multisetup is generally used to bring up in an instance, favorite
patches that make up songs. Channels 1-16a and 1-16b all have the
presets desired on the individual channels. All other information
such as panning setpoints, volume, arp assignments, global
information.......etc, are all saved as well and recalled with the
push of a button.

Yes you can. Page 60 of the manual has what you are referring to and
page 124 has the parameters I was talking about.

In XL-7, multisetups are useful for the "everything else" part of them.
Since all of the "track data" (presets, vol, pan, etc) is saved in a
pattern, you can use a pattern to set up that info. What multisetups
are great for in XL-7 is saving "system" data like trigger setups, midi
settings, etc. This enables you to save, for example, a different
trigger setup per set, or perhaps a multi for live use and one for
studio use.

Just press stop twice (or three times if you were playing) after loading
the multi. This reloads the *pattern's* idea of what the presets (and
vol, pan, etc) should be!

Maybe I'll have to re-explore my live versus studio multisetup idea then.
Thanx Aaron!
