Can I create customized sound kits or can I save custom sounds into the pattern?

Hi, new to the group. Awesome stuff! Here's my question.

Is there a way to create custom sound kits without using up so many
user presets? I know that a user preset can have up to four
customized roms and I understand that you can link up to two more
presets giving you 12. But would those last eight be able to be
altered and somehow saved without having to save it as another user
preset?

I'm also thinking about if I can set the sound "adjustments" (pitch,
decay, filter settings, etc.) somehow in cc or sys exe into the 1st
tick of the pattern. I've done it with other instruments but am
wondering if this is even possible with the MP-7. And if so how?

Trying to avoid creating a lot of user patches per song or preset and
later having to track them all so that I don't screw something up
once I've aquired a bunch of them.

Thanks,

Satlok

>>>Well, might be just some terminology mismatches, but I want to make
sure you understand the layout first. Yes, each PRESET has up to 4
LAYERS, each layer has one INSTRUMENT which can be from any of the (up to)
4 ROMS installed in your XX-7. Yes, you're right in that you can link two
more presets to a single Preset. This would effectively give you up to 12
LAYERS total (4 for each of the 3 Presets), but you're still only having
to save at most 3 PRESETS, not 8. Yes, if you make a change to a Preset
that's linked to another one, you really should save it to a new location
to avoid losing the sound from your Linked Presets.

I'm also thinking about if I can set the sound "adjustments" (pitch,
decay, filter settings, etc.) somehow in cc or sys exe into the 1st tick

>>>Well, I think you could probably do this for most if not all of the
parameters, but it would be VERY time consuming to say the least. <<<

>>>Honestly, I think good orginization skills are a must when working with
boxes like these, as you will inevitably end up with lots of your own
Presets (which are the same thing as patches BTW). I try and name my
Presets with some aspect of the name of the Pattern they're used in to
help me out with this. For instance, if I have a Pattern called
"ReadTheManual", I'll name my Presets things like "Read BD", "Read Snare",
"Read Bassline", and "Read Lead". Helps you to make sure you're not
overwriting anything by mistake. Also, I overwrite all of the factory
Presets that are in the User area with the "Init Preset" located in the
very last Preset location in each ROM. That way, when I go to save my own
presets, I only need to look for the next location with "init" in it to
save to. <<<
