data wheel malfunction

data wheel malfunction

2004-02-19 by Nermin

Hi everyone. For a while I've had this problem with data wheel on my
xl7 where it would throw data all over the place unless turned really
slowly.I've tried deoxidizer but that would work anly for a day and
it just comes back to same problem.I would really like to fix this
somehow.Does anyone else have this problem and can it be fixed easily?

Thanks
Nermin

Pretty much everyone has this problem. The encoders suck. If you're
brave, you could bend back the four little pins that hold the encoder
together and try and improve the wiper contacts, but you'll probably
end up making it worse.

Well, that sucks.I guess I am gonna have to keep turning it really slowly and get used to that. I am not gonna mess with internals becouse I am usually not very lucky with that kinda stuff.
thanks

Search thru the archive......like many moons ago someone said they
used heavy bicycle-grade grease loaded down into encoder mechanism -
they swore that it "fixed" the problem

remember - I am not saying to do this - I am saying that I think I
remmber someone saying that...

rEalm? Any memories of this?

Re: data wheel malfunction

in all of the free time you must have, Aaron :0 -

sys rev suggestion, the fabled dead-encoder work-around:

playpads-as-numeric-keypad mode: C-A as 0-9, A#-B as (+) and (-) and
top C as ENTER

I know this is probably not practical to suggest, but I am curious -
is it possible given the archetecture of the Command Station?

my wheel is starting to go too......causes me great distress as I use
the box all the time

ok - thanks

Ed

Yeah, vaguely remember it, but I wouldn't recommend it though. Probably
will help things for a bit, but I can't imagine grease is going to help in
the long run, might make things worse. The only other option I can
suggest, is contact Emu tech suport and see how much it would cost to get
a new encoder installed.

Whoa!!! That's awesome, how'd you find that? I think with some pictures
that are geared towards the XX-7, this would be very easy for most people
to do.

RE: [xl7] Re: data wheel malfunction

It was on the emusaic.net E-MU sampler mailing list a while back. Altho my
mp-7 is fine, my E-MU Ultra suffers from this problem. It don't really
bother me tho coz I have an ASCII keyboard plugged into it and use that most
of the time.

Glad I could be of some help, tho the real credit should go to the guy who
made the webpage!
