hello there i have owned an RM1x and i might add for about 3 weeks.
I got it in order to replace the computer platform sequencer i had
been running for years. I got it home and was supper happy with it
untill i reolized a few things that i could not live with.
The haveing to hit stop all the time to go into record and many many
other reasons, limited midi and well...the sounds are not editable
enuf. I could go on. But i will get to the point. The RM1x is a
toy compaired to this thing. I find the sequencer to be a little
less intuitive than the RM1x, altough I have talked to a couple of
people that feel that i am a freak for this opinion. The presets on
the XL7 don't do alot for me overall but it just dont matter at all
due to the absolutly asome editability of the synth. compairing the
synth in the RM1x to the synth in the XL7 is like compairing a go
cart to a tank in a battle. I know you dont want tech info but this
is not clear to the eye in the specs. you can set up the four aux
sends as send/returns for FX as well as to recive inputs from other
gear. I have never heard of a more flexable input output setup on
anything. One thing that buggs me is the lack of a disk drive but
that is just me and my old fashond ways. I bought an external
sequencer so i did not have to use a computer for music, i dont like
relying on microsoft. I would rather have a box of disks. But i am
a freak in this way as well. The other thing that is anoying about
the XL7 is the lack to controll program changes in external gear but
that will be fixed soon enuf, there are a couple of other small buggs
that need to be worked out but the people at E-MU are actualy
dedicated to fixing them not like the people at yamaha. For example
i orderd the upgrade chip for the os from yamaha via a major store in
my city and i never got a call in 17 days, this is just way to long!
I got my XL7 home and found there was a problem and went throug the
freak out process of calling and emailing E-MU and then promptly
downloaded the os upgrade and it was fixed. same day....done. so
there ya go, buy one i am confadent that the days that i am complaing
about buggs will be long forgotten, and the many users to come will
watch this thing become a classic.
Bottom line
this thing is DA BOMB!
Phew...that was a rant, he he :P
