S/PDIF w/Normalization

S/PDIF w/Normalization

2004-02-15 by vibesart

Greetings Everyone -

to continue the discussion about Normalization (and recording the
S/PDIF output of the XL7)

http://digido.solodev.com/portal/pmodule_id=11/pmdmode=fullscreen/pageadder_page_id=53#anchor2842740

worth considering - Bob Katz's article would seem to say that yes - do
it but also convert to 24 bit.....

Pehaps Aaron may have more to add to this...

Interesting. Unfortunatly, that article mostly deals with normalizing
*analog* source material. Most of the article is devoted to talk about
the noise floor. In a pure digital system (i.e. S/PDIF) there is NO
noise floor (this is the advantage!) However, he does go on to say:

> itself, which can add low-level distortion.

And this is what I was trying to allude to with my initial statement.
Again, though, this distortion is only half of the very least bit big.
You'll never hear it; it's just a theoretical type thing.

I would think that just capturing the signal at 24 bit to begin with would
eliminate a lot of the uncertainty he mentions. Good read, thanks!
