Chip IDs / Midi Quest

Chip IDs / Midi Quest

2004-02-11 by Turby Schmidt

I tried to set up Midi quest for my XX7, i wrote to soundquest about how to
do that and they told me

...you will see information on how to set the PCH number for the driver to
match the chip IDs for the MP7

So my questions are
What is a PCH number?
How do i know what Chip IDs has my XX7 [mp7 with TSCY]

Anybody can help?

Just a guess, but PCH could be Program Change? Chip ID would be the ROM
bank numbers. Each Emu ROM acts like it's own Bank.

think you got it, but what does this means? program change numbers are used
to change the program, but i didnt see how they could be useful for preset
dumping,
The chip ID number? is it the msb bank number?

Re: Chip IDs / Midi Quest

2004-02-12 by Mike-E

I thought there is also a Midi Quest Yahoo group out there. Maybe you
should check there. Besides that I've Googled and came up with an e-
mail of Micheal Lambie of Sound Quest:

http://music4moment.com/Stan/other/SQmailbox.txt

PCH is mentioned in that e-mail. As far as I understand the technical
sh*t, you should take a look at the manual on how to create your own
instruments in MQ. It should be in there.

Re: Chip IDs / Midi Quest

Turby, I just got MidiQuest 9 and sent SoundQuest an email and a
link to the e-loader. They said thanks and that it shouldn't take
them long to add the XL-7 / MP-7. They also suggested trying the
Proteus set up and modifying it. I'm a real midi-newbie and this is
a bit beyond what I can understand in an evening after work. Looking
forward to your and SoundQuest progress.....

Re: Chip IDs / Midi Quest

2004-02-12 by dwoodaman

How interesting they said that. I bugged them for months, and they
told me no support for the XL/MP because Emu wouldn't lend them one.
I asked, why not just buy one, its a business expense, right? No
answer there. I finally bought the Proteum editor from Saxonite and
like that quite well. YMMV.

Re: Chip IDs / Midi Quest

2004-02-13 by Mike-E

I early bought version 9.0 and it should have VST support (it could
run as a VST). Just before the release the suddenly mentioned "there
will be a 9.0 and a XL9.0". Only the XL version has the VST plugin
included. So I suddenly had to pay $50 more.

After that I got a very buggy XL9.0. After 6 months the are already
on service pack number 3. I had e-mail contact with Michal Lambie
about some bugs in editors, support for the Jomox Airbase, support
for the Novation KS series.

Yes, will have planned that. Yes, we will support those but we don't
have an Airbase. Yes, but we don't have all required Midi
information. After I've sent them all information I had collected
from the manufacturers and some available editors (just like you
did), the said "the are planned for release this Fall 2003". This was
July/August 2003.

In October I contacted Michael again, when the release was planned.
Guess what? They were to busy for NAMM 02/2004. Maybe after the NAMM.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!!!!!! You're kidding me??

So, Sound Quest will never get one Dollar from me again. If they
going to support the Airbase, KS series and XL-7 then I will install
the software again, because I've paid about $200 for it and NEVER
used it succesfully! I hate those guys that are in it O N L Y for the
money.

Rest my case,
Maik

RE: [xl7] Re: Chip IDs / Midi Quest

2004-02-13 by Turby Schmidt

Sorry to hear this experiences,
but one thing is programing an universal editor, without having support from
the hardware [of course they shouldnt promise things never happens]
manufacturing, and another thing is deliver hardware without an grafic
editor...
i think we displace the problem if we talk bad about squest, and we dont
mention emu. most of the equipment nowadays got an grafic editor, and it
should have, i think the problem is that emu doesnt care too much about that
issue, if they dont have programmers they could by a license from proteum or
at least give a machine to squest, so they can write the instrument
definition [they only need it a time, then they gonna give it back]...
anyway... i would prefer get the instrument delivered with an editor...

Re: Chip IDs / Midi Quest

2004-02-13 by Mike-E

Do you realy think that ALL manufacturers provided ALL instruments
that Midi Quest supports? I don't think so.

Besides that, I've provided them with all technical details, system
exclusive specifications, already available editors etc.. Then the
promised to create those instruments and at this time the still are
not available.

I'm sorry to say that SQuest sucks... big time!
