I hooked my XL-7 up to cubase and I can use the sounds etc easily enough. My problem is that if i send midi clock to the XL-7 then the sequencer starts playing (when I just want to use the sounds basically). What is the best way of having XL-7 and Cubase in the same setup?

It sounds like Cubase is sending a MIDI Song Start command out over MIDI. The XL-7 shouldn't start on it's own without something telling it to start. Turning off sending Song Start should be an option somewhere in Cubase. Scott

Turn off send MIDI Clock & MTC in Cubase. I believe it's in the Synchronization menu, lower right corner. rEalm My problem is that if i send midi clock to the XL-7 then the sequencer starts playing (when I just want to use the sounds basically).

Or, like suggested before, tell Cubase to *not* send a Song Start command when it starts. Scott
