BPM syncronisation device

BPM syncronisation device

2004-02-11 by steven_volckaert

I'm looking for a device to sync my Command Station with the sound
form my turntables.

I found such a device, the Redsound Micro Sync, but Redsound stopped
production of this one (and it's bigger brother Voyager) last year...

I was really wondering if products that are similar are out there for
purchase.

I DO NOT need the automatic beat counter like on the Micro Sync, a
tap tempo function should be OK PLUS a feature 'nudge' or something
like that; so I can change the BPM in steps of 0.1 AND the ability
to "bpm bend". A remote start/stop button should be OK also but
that's not really neccecary. BPM screen should be great.

Thanks for anyone who want to help; I searched for a long time on the
web but I did not find anything like the Micro Sync, alas...

I actually use a MicroSync for the same thing you're trying to do, and
like you I couldn't find anything else that came close to what it does. I
do know there are still some out there though, you just need to hunt
around. Maybe try and get a hold of Red Sound's distributer? I recommend
you keep trying to find a MicroSync if you can, they really do work quite
well.

Hmm, the only thing I could find was this:

http://www.behringer.com/02_products/prodindex_dj.cfm?id=DFX69&lang=ENG&CFID=1534616&CFTOKEN=84916988

It'll detect BPM's, but doesn't send MIDI clock. Is that what you were
referring to?

Thanks very much for the reply, I send an email today to the
distributer for Europe, which is in Italy, but I did not yet get an

I also did send an email to Redsound and they said Redsound is

Wow, that would be cool! As much as I like the Micro Sync, there are some
areas it could be improved on. For instance it need some type of lag
processor to slow down tempo changes. Sometimes it thinks the tempo has
changed and will start pushing and pulling the midiclock, would be nice if
it waited a bit before changing the tempo.

I hope this is NOT the clone of the Micro Sync by Behringer.
At the first look, it's like crap (like many Behringer DJ-stuff).

I hope they made a decent clone of the sync device and put it for
once in a metal casing in place of a plastic one... I really hate
that poor building quality on some Behringer things.

What OS version is your MicroSync? Mine is 2.04, and I gotta say I found the
midiclock output when there's no input audio signal to be a bit erratic.

I also agree with you saying it needs a lag processor when it's syncing to
audio - sometimes it starts pushing and pulling the beats all over the place
even when there's a steady beat.

That's why I do not need the audio input... I think it's far more
accurate if you can just tap the tempo, and then do fine adjustments
with the "nudge" function to accurately que up the music.

-> If I can lay my hands on a micro sync I would not use the audio
input.

RE: [xl7] Re: BPM syncronisation device

2004-02-12 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

I think pretty much all of them are 2.04. I contacted Red Sound when I
first got mine to make sure there wasn't a more recent update,a dn tehy
told me that 2.04 was the final version for the MicroSync's.

As for the push pull thing, yeah, that's the only real downside of this
little box. Sometimes it acts a little unpredictably, and can go off beat
for a bit. I find the best way to use mine, is to let it calculate the
tempo, hit start to sync my PX-7, and then put it in "freewheeling mode"
for the rest of the time. you can still use the nudge buttons if you hear
it starting to slip, and you don't have to worry about it getting a stray
tempo, or during long drops.

The MicroSync is still the best out for this kinda of stuff, but it does
require a bit more 'babysitting' than I would prefer. If it was accurate
enough to just hit play and forget about it, that would be so sweet. Oh
well, if it was too easy....

Yeah, if the XX-7's sequencers had a tempo resolution better than just
whole numbers (i.e 134.5), I would have just synced it by ear right from
the XL-7's front panel and not eved gotten my MicroSync. But as I'm
usually using it with both decks going at once, it's not practical to get
it close and then adjust the tables to match.
