thinking of going there....

thinking of going there....

2004-02-04 by aaron_bliss

I just posted this same question to a different board, I found this
list and think it more of a question for y'all.

Hi, I new here, dont have any emu gear but have allways thought
that my setup would be pretty strong If i added emu to the list. the
only thing is, there is so much to choose from/

I am thinking of getting into emu gear.

I have a few synths and a MPC but I am sick of allways looking for
samples for ALL my drums, a few signature sounds here and there are
cool but I would like to be able to just get up and go. not have to
reload new sounds each time I start to work.

What do ya'll think about the PX-7 with the MPC plus a few of the
roms, I think I would like the mophat and the XL, maybe the beat
garden, you know... go for some of the orbit3 type sounds. this way
its all at my fingers.
sick drums and sick synths all at a touch of a button.

or

go the way of the proteus or another emu rack and add the roms?

I was thinking the command station will give me more control over my
sounds (upfront) in realtime. where as the racks only give you like
3 knobs the PX-gives you something like 16.

also all the things I have read so far do not mention how many outs
there are. and I an wondering about the sounds as well. can you pull
off the techy /sounds as well as the funk sounds, reason I ask is I
like them both sometime more than the other. My music is at times
funk/hip-hopish but still techno influence is strong.

let me know. also, anyone use this for a live act like house,
breaks or techno type of thing? how is it working for you?

Thanks for the help.
Aaron

Welcome to XL-7 Aaron,
Here is a cut of my reply to the other board for redundancy's
sake,
           61

There is one pair of main outs L&R and and 2 pair of sub outs. If
you will be using the sequencer I would go with the **-7 series if
you are not go with the module, most midi controllers will give you
the knobs and slider the knobs on the **7 units work the same as
external midi controlers just set the midi channel. The mophatt rom
is not available individually as many of the other roms, but the
pure phatt is. Same instruments different presets.

>>>I hear you man, I use a XL-& with the Protean Drum ROM in it. I have
it set up so that it's very simple to recall a "writing" set up, where my
favorite drum patches are preassigned to the tracks I want. IE, BD is on
Track 1, Snare on track 2, etc. It's very easy to do this, and definitely
speeds things up. <<<

>>>If you want drums, you HAVE to get the Protean Drum ROM. Best EMu ROM
for drum sounds, hands down. <<<
