New Contest?

New Contest?

2004-01-28 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

So, is anyone up for another contest? I'm down, I think it could be fun
and it's been awhile too. Only downside is that i just don't have time to
run this one, though I'd certainly be willing to help someone else get it
started. Anyone interested, got any ideas?

I´m not sure about the competition side of things but I´d contribute a
soundbite for anyone to judge the xx7. Most of my compositions
comprise of other gear (esp. sampler)so it might be a bit sparse.
I´ve just spent a week sorting out all the chaos in my user preset
banks - since I just installed my new world expidition ROM :)
I´ll hopefully have some of my patterns reconfigured by next week
hence I´m also strapped for time to admin all this so I´ll stay
posted.

Re: New Contest?

2004-01-29 by Greg

Hi Realm,
This time around I think we should do a couple categories. Have one
for just XX7(just like last time, maybe set some genres) and one
where anything goes as long as there is XX7 in the mix. I think an
anything goes category might tempt others to try combinning other
instruments they wouldn't have thought of. Or even just to try vocals.
I think categories for the genres would be cool but might be too
broad. So I would break things into Harsh, Mellow, and Experimental.

The rules from the last contest were a good foundation. "Anything
goes" doesn't need rules. All that is needed is place to drop the
files into for judging and consumption.

Take Care,
_Greg

>>>Not a bad idea, but I've found in the past that you get more meaningful
results (as in, pertinant to this list) when you stick with the one piece
of gear. At least then we're all on the same playing field so it's some
what fair. True, a good musical idea is far better than any production
skills, but contest where anything goes seem to more or less favor those
with the cash for high end gear in most cases. It really doesn't matter
to me though, I"ll go with what the group decides either way. <<<

The rules from the last contest were a good foundation. "Anything goes"
doesn't need rules. All that is needed is place to drop the files into for
judging and consumption.

>>>Since IUMA is not going to be a good option (we could use our old site
if needed), I say we do the same thing with a Soundclick.com account, as
it's free too. <<<

One other piece of gear is cool. Would an original sample be
considered at instrument ( I got to redcord with a microphone into a
device, two pieces of gear to get one result ) ?

I wanna do something with a sample of dogs playing becuase the older
makes these crazy Chewbacca type moises.

Soundclick is a good idea, but I think they have a storage limit per
account. Just not enforced. I think I read something about 20 mB. But
I am not positive. I could check it today when I look at my reports.

Soundclick has unlimited uploads, but on a free account a file cannot
exceed 10 mB. So Soundclick.com looks like a winner to me.

Soundclick is good and it also provides lo-fi for dial-up users.

I believe the limit is per song upload, but you can have as many
songs as you want.
