I don't own one, but I don't see why not, its easy enough to try
out...

It's the only way to overcome the sync in slave mode problem of the ES-1.
I used to won the ER - EA - ES Electribes.
And had them all daisy chained on midi A out going ER to EA to ES last in the line.
Seriously it does make for a rather funky little sound module set up with a good
  sequencer this way.
Also take a look at www.five.com (I think that's the link) for Numerology.
The step sequencers in this proggy can be used to control all the E-tribes nrprn specific
knobs (no more single/dual motion sequencer lines there).
There is a very whacked out demo of an ER-1 sequenced thios way.
Trust me you wont believe your ears.
Oh and trust me after using your ES with the XX-7 in this fashion you won't go back.
I mean try doing 14 measures of 7/4 with velocity control and the swing shuffle options the XX-7's have. No can do.
Have fun .[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

solo mode not working

2004-01-21 by Wesley D

somebody help: I'm using a MOTU MIDI Express XT in my studio and for some reason solo mode seems to be having no effect on channels 2+. It happens when sequenced from the computer, and when I control it from my keyboard. Instead of the next note in the sequence sounding, the first one just rings out and you hear silence. So with overlapping notes in a sequence, I can only hear the first one.

I'm thinking it's got something to do with my setup on the interface... hoping someone hear has had this problem and fixed it.

Thanks,

Wesley

Re: solo mode not working

I wrote the following as general thoughts on the MOTU interface. I
am not sure your problem is an interface problem, though.

I actually have a P-2500 with XL-1 rom and never use solo mode. So I
can't really address that issue. Hope others who use solo mode can
help.

========================================================
If this is the 8 x 8 midi router, I have the parallel port version
running Windows98SE and cakewalk software (pre-sonar).

I recommend:
(1) go to the motu site (for help, latest drivers, etc.)
(2) if you don't find your answer there either e-mail or call (non-
toll free).

I have gotten excellent help from those two sources on MOTU related
issues.

========>  BUT FIRST:
Based on Windows98SE, I'd check Control Panel | Multimedia Properties
| MIDI to make sure MIDI ports are showing up properly.

Then check Multimendia Properties | Devices to make sure midi ports
are there too (MXPXT: Ou1 1 - 8, All). NOTE: For some reason, MXPXT:
Out 1 also contains all ports in the list. I am not sure if you will
find this, if so, it does not seem to cause the problem you describe.

NEXT: Use the appropriate MOTU utility for your computer/OS for
configuring the interfeace presets to check what's going on.

Hope this helps.

Re: [xl7] Re: solo mode not working - much weirdness please help!!!!!!!

2004-01-22 by Wesley D

Ok,

I have a confession to make real quick, in case it might make a difference. I really have an XL-1, not an XL-7, which is why you'll only find me discussing issues of the synth engine and not the sequencer functions. But I'm sorry, the XL-1 list sucks donkey balls. No one ever talks on there, and this list is waaaayyyy more informative, even for someone w/out the sequencer. Plus, I've sorta been waiting on the PX-7 for the different color and soundset, anyway....

I've now isolated the problem to a specific patch. Here's the scenario: On CH.1, I can do wicked solos using solo mode set to glide. when I switch my controller to CH.2 there must be a space in between note on messages in order for the note to sound. So if I play a wicked solo it comes out as silence. It's not a setting on my MIDI interface, because I don't have this problem with other patches. I only recently encountered this problem while trying to sequence multiple channels simultaneously from the computer whilst composing.

Thanks,

Wesley

p.s. please don't bust my balls for not really having an XX-7, because I'll have one shortly, and the synth architecture is more or less the same, same filters, rom, parameters, patchchord destinations, etc.... I think I learned the Sloop to Gain 4X trick on this list too..... so don't hate, although, that factor must be considered when problems arrise.

in the mod matrix (Cords), do the following...

LFO (triangle, .25Hz for starters) -> Gain4x

then

Gain4x -> SLoop

what this will do is modulate the sample loop-end
position (memory address)...

depending on the wave chosen, and the wave(s) next
to it in the ROM, you can get some nice grainy, buzzy
tones that have additional overtones and the like.

needless to say, this can be (ab)used and combined
with many other programming tricks on the modern
Proteii, for example, all manner of clocked modula-
tions and envelopes routed to things in the Cords
matrix, as well as use of the modular-style modifiers,
e.g., diode, lag processing, etc.

cheers,
aeon

Route Gain 4X to 'S loop' in your 100% in your patch-chord section.

Then Route a controller to Gain 4X 100%. Feel free to experiment with different values. On some patches it won't do anything, on others is sounds really cool. (I mean damn cool)

ANyway tho, I really need to figure out why on earth this patch of mine won't let me solo!!!! Why only Ch.1?

Not a prob. The synth engines are identical with the exception of
note-off layers in the 2.00 OS for the command stations.

Sounds like you are using a solo mode that does not retrigger the
envelope and are using an volume or filter envelope that doesn't have
sustain. Try playing with the "multiple trigger" solo mode or playing
with the sustain values/rates for the filter and volume envelope.

Heh, I just looked through the list archives to find that. We were
having a friendly argument about 128 voice samplers vs reversed
samples, and it evolved into tips and tricks... =)

On a side note, anybody know why the search feature sucks for yahoo? I
had to search back by my username to find that post instead of Gain4X.

Check it, it's really weird, I don't think it's anything to do with the actual patch. perhaps a multisetup thing or a genuine glitch, I dunno.

This patch will work perfectly when on Ch. 1. It only refuses more than one note at a time when on other channels. Maybe my interface is bunk, this is the weirdest problem I've come across.

What I don't get is why it will work on Ch.1 but not on other channels. Then I have other patches that work just fine on all channels.

They changed the way the archives are searched a couple of months ago.
The results are given on a month/page basis so you have to keep
clicking *next* - really weak.
Considering that they´re trying to compeate with google as the nets
search engine I think they have a long way to go.

"Do you Yahoo!?"

Not by choice!
:p

Thanks for mentioning this! I thought it was me and was feeling
totally incompetent!! (A few months ago I couldn't find topics I was
looking for, so I also started searching for things based on my
posts.)

Re: [xl7] Re: solo mode not working - much weirdness please help!!!!!!!

2004-01-25 by Wesley D

Ok, this is straight driving me crazy. This patch can only use its solo mode when it's on Ch.1. Any other channel and no dice. All the other presets work just fine on every channel, so it's not an external issue. Since the sound functions just fine on channel one it's not a problem with the patch. Since other sounds can do it, it's doesn't seem to be a master setting.

So what on earth is it? Someone tell me it's broken or something.... perhaps a messed up component? should I crack it open and start testing? hook it up, cuz I'm totally befudled on this one.

Thanks again guys,

Wesley
