Emulator X

2004-01-18 by djskurge

"I was given a complete demo of thier new Emulator X Sampler package
which sounds very intriguing. All the samples from all thier previous
products ( including all the proteous and command statuion ROMS) were
transported to this new sampler. 50 Z-Plane filters, 60 real time
effects , along with an audio card solution whose specs seems very
good."

Taken from a blurb over at www.kvr-vst.com from a guy that visited
NAMM.

All of the proteus/command station sounds included? Are you kidding
me? The specs say 2 gigs of sounds are included. I wonder if you
would get soundfonts too. I am really excited to learn more about
this system. Basically this is the command station/sampler hybrid
most of us have been drooling about.
What if you can make patches/presets in a virtual environment with
patchcords etc on a 19 monitor? Am I the only one that finds this to
be fantastic news?

Someone from Emu, come give us the 411 on this, please.

Or you could just spend $70 on the protean editor....

Anyone using the Emu X or the 1212/1820? Just curious what people think
of these if they have any experience. Been kinda of eyeing the 1820m
personally....

Yo rEalm!

yes - I am using EX with the 1820m, and it is fantastic.

I am running it on an Athlon 1.6 ghz machine with 512 MB RAM - getting
130 voices and smooth operation. I should boost the RAM, and perhaps
the processor too. I've been using it everyday for about a month, no
problems and the functionality is a breeze.

Plus...the AD/DA converters are Seriously Great and in my opinion on
the level of the best stuff out there.

highly recommended!

That's my real reason for wanting to upgrade, the A/D. I was going to go
with a dedicated A/D box, but this sounds like it will suit my needs too,
and much cheaper!

Re: Emulator X

Slight tangent:

I think it's a real shame that Emu (or Creative Labs...) has
abandoned their hardware line. Inevitable maybe - but a real shame
nonetheless.

I suppose there aren't enough musicians doing live shows to drive the
hardware market like in the old days, when computers could barely
balance your checkbook. But with OS 2.0 the Command Stations had
really come into their own, and they offer an experience the computer
currently can't match. An ES-12 "Emulation Station" sampling command
station would have rocked the free world...

I agree. I also think the Command Stations would have held their own
against grooveboxes from the competition (Roland, Akai, etc.).

I also find it unfortunate Creative decided not to support the Mac
platform in their Emulator X product.

I think the Command Stations eat other grooveboxes for breakfast
(burrp!).

Yeah. That killed any interest I might have had.

Yes, very much a shame this never came about, it is the logical companion
for the Command Stations. I still can't decide on a sampler to comliment
my XX-7.
