External Sequencer/Channel/Track Selection Question

External Sequencer/Channel/Track Selection Question

2004-01-10 by eviljim113

I have Cakewalk Home Studio setup so that certain MIDI channels
matches a certain instrument on the XL7. How do I set up the XL7 so
that it receives the instrument that I want to play from a certain
Midi Channel?

For example, I have midi channel 1 setup to play instrument 1 on the
XL7 and midi channel 2 setup to play instrument 2 on the XL7. The
problem I am getting is that the XL7 only plays the preset that is
mapped on the current track/channel on the pattern regardless of what
MIDI channel I have selected on the external sequencer.

Any help? I know the XL7 can be setup as a sound module but I think
it's pretty lame if an external sequencer can only play one instrument
from it at a time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

/jim

Turn rechannelize off. It's in the MIDI menu.

Thanks, Aaron. I tried that but unfortunately it didn't work. Do you
mind letting me know what your MIDI settings are?

I figured it out. I had to set the MIDI Input channel to "B" instead
of "A".

Have you grabbed the cakewalk definition files from the file
sections? That makes it all pretty easy, if you dont know what to do
with them hit the list and you can get more help. XL7 works great
with cakewalk/Sonar

Thanks! I was searching Cakewalk's website for these definitions
forever. I was almost tempted to do the definitions myself but didn't
feel like writing down all the instrument names.

Thanks for the tip.

On the P2K board, Eric von Bayer created an .ins file with all of the
ROM definitions (as of several months ago). I thought it was posted
here, too, under files. Hmmmm.
