Hi folks,

My name is Boris, and I bought an MP-7 two days ago.
Yesterday I had my first acquaintance with it, and, aside from being
rather impressed, have a couple of questions.

- When I change the filter Freq (in the Filter edit page), it doesn't
seem to affect the notes already sounding, i.e. I have to retrigger
to hear the change. This seems unreasonable, since knobs or other
real-time controllers *do* affect the filter immediately. What can I
do about it? Playing with Freq and hearing the filter change is such
a basic fun of synthesis, it must be possible!

- Is it possible to quickly reset a latched arpeggiator? I know of
two ways, neither of which is quick: in the Preset screen, go to "A:"
parameter and set it to "off", then back to "on" or "P"; or in Preset
Edit, scroll to Arp Latch parameter (can I jump directly to it? seems
like I always have to scroll) and turn it off and on again.

And while I'm at it, my first feature requests for Preset Edit mode:
- in Compare mode, display the original (stored) values;
- add a Copy Envelope function. This is implemented very effectively
on Ensoniq samplers, where you can copy envelope parameters to an
internal clipboard, and then "paste" them to any other envelope.
After all, E-MU acquired Ensoniq, why not use the best in its'
heritage? :-)

These features doen't seem too hard to implement, and would make
using the powerful synthesizer of MP-7 even more pleasant. Hopefully,
in the next OS version...

Thank you for attention,
have a great day,
Boris.

First of all, welcome to the group! Some answers below:

change. This seems unreasonable, since knobs or other real-time
controllers *do* affect the filter immediately.

>>>Hmm, don't remember this being the case personally, unless you were
talking about Filter Resonance which is always only updated at note on,
even with the knobs. Best solution in this case is to just put the knobs
in Quick Edit mode, and use them while you tweak I guess. <<<

- Is it possible to quickly reset a latched arpeggiator? I know of two
ways, neither of which is quick: in the Preset screen, go to "A:"
parameter and set it to "off", then back to "on" or "P"; or in Preset
Edit, scroll to Arp Latch parameter (can I jump directly to it? seems like
I always have to scroll) and turn it off and on again.

>>>The first method you mention is definitely the fastest, and yes you'll
always have to scroll to get that screen in Preset Edit. <<<

- add a Copy Envelope function. This is implemented very effectively on
Ensoniq samplers, where you can copy envelope parameters to an internal
clipboard, and then "paste" them to any other envelope.

>>>In the Save Menu, there's a "Copy Preset Layer" command that will do
this (obviously along with all of the other layer settings), that's really
the onyl way to do it right now. <<<

These features doen't seem too hard to implement, and would make using the
powerful synthesizer of MP-7 even more pleasant. Hopefully, in the next OS
version...

>>>I don't think we're going to get another OS update, just a FYI so you
don't wait for it. <<<

No, I really meant frequency (I know about Resonance limitation from
the FAQ). I'll check again, maybe it was somehow caused by the filter
envelope.

Yeah, but the whole point is to apply one preset/layer's envelope to
another. Or copy, say, filter envelope to pitch (if you want an exact
copy, you can just add a cord; but if you want it as a basis for
further tweaking, such shortcut could be useful).

With PX-7 (which I assume utilizes the same OS) released about a year
ago, and the OS at version 2.00, I was sure at least a minor upgrade
will follow. From my experience as a programmer, a *.00 version is
rarely the last one :-) But then OK, I won't hold my breath.

bye,
Boris.

Emu themselves have already told us it's VERY unlikely there will ever be
another OS update, we were extremely fortunate to get 2.0 as it is.
