hmmmmm... if I had to guess I'd say it simply won't work. OS compatibility? I've never tried it. In theory, it should* be possible, but maybe not.

I believe the issue is probably the Device ID used by E-mu sysex
headers. This byte probably needs to be reset from the XL1 value to
the XL7 value. I thought someone had already done this, somewhere,
but I liked the XL7 presets better than the XL1's (my friend has one)
so I never looked into it. Anyway, that's where I'd guess the problem
lies, hope that helps.

i uploaded the System Exclusive versions of those banks to the files section
of the Yahoo Group, if that helps.

initially i played each .mid file from the E-mu site back at a swift 120bpm
in Digital Performer and it worked ok. some questions to ask yourself:

a) is my XL-7 receiving MIDI from my computer's sequencer AT ALL?

b) is my MIDI SysEx Packed Delay time out set to 50 milliseconds? (anything
higher = slowness, anything lower and you risk losing some data - maybe
someone else has some input on this? by the way it's in the MIDI menu.)

c) am i blasting the sequence at 180bpm or something? 120bpm worked for me,
try 100bpm if it is still rejecting it.

if you have a sys-ex dump utility download the banks i've uploaded and send
those with your sys-ex utility - they seem to work better than sequencers
for sending program data to/from synths.

there's some good stuff in those XL-1 banks. :D
