Hybrids new one = badass!!!! did you catch the live show? pretty damn impressive, much more like a rock band this time around.

I would have to recommend Grayarea to any Hybrid fans out there.

other than that, I was listening to a digweed mix that was pretty nice. Also been heavily into Rick Wakeman lately, and Luke Chable.

What's been in heaviest rotation for me is the CD "Conga Line in
Hell," subtitled "Modern classics from Latin America." It's all
piano and small orchestra, with emphasis on latin percussion.

I got it for Conlon Nancarrow's orchestral piece, but the title
number by Miguel del Aquila, is wonderful, as is the rest of the CD.

>>>Yeah, I saw them, it was a pretty good show. Although in Chicago the
turnout was so pitiful, like only 75 people showed up. Oh well, after
they played they just jumped down off the stage and started talking with
people, so that was cool. Apparently the next CD will be even more 'rock
bandish'. Good and bad to that, I like the newer stuff, but the older
stuff has it's strengths too. <<<

I don't remember which one, they're all good. It's almost a year old, a kiss 100 set.

That's crazy only 75 peeps showed up to hybrid, I'm in Orlando and it was packed, at least 2-3 thousand, at house of blues. (not sure if you knew, but Florida is a bar town, all the kids down here like their funky florida breaks, they like those cheezy synths and lame vocals, and girls shaking their asses on bars, most people down here are not really into electronic music, which is mostly thanks to the 2AM bar closing law, I heard it just passed in Atlanta too, which is my hometown, I'd say to anyone who lives in a city where you can go out on the weekend and stay out late listening to world class talent...... don't take it for granted, a bunch of A-holes are trying to completely kill the night life in the country)

Peace,

Wesley

Don't have a CD player, never have, and may never get one. I just don't like the sound
that's all.

Currently on my turntable is an amazing record by Alain Kremski called "Musiques Rituelles
pour Cloches et Gongs".

I'm digging on the Download III Steps CD as well. Others that always
seem to be in rotation are -
Andriod Lust - Resolution
Unit 187 - Capitol Punishment & Loaded
KMFDM - WWW3 and many others from the older catalog.
Ministry - In case you didn't feel like showing up
Miles Davis - Doo-Bop
CYpress Hill - Black Sunday

Various MP3's from Suture Seven, Grigori 3, and Glis

Enjoy your holidays all,
-Greg

Re: What's everyone listening to right now?

2003-12-19 by dj 61

About burnt out my morning sci fi. Always up fo a strong arm session
if I can make it work on the dial up I'm currentlly on:(
Outkast Love/Speakerboxx Uberzone's latest on moonshine. And various
Chris Fortier downloads. Hard to find a good "DJ" set now days; it
seems most mixes are done in the computer. Funny that now it is
nearly impossible to get props for a vinyl mix when the world's best
consider it acceptable to edit all of the tracks, pitch, and time
correct... and then assemble the mix in a computer. So that the
level of mixing many DJ's aspire to may not be possible on 2
turntables, cdj's or whatever. At least Uberzone didn't even pretend
his was a traditional mix. He tell you right up front that he used
computers and whatever else was at his disposal to make it... fair
enough since he is a live PA. I guess it just dissapoints me that
people don't seem to want the mix anymore and thos that are famed
for being DJs rely on thier name and production skills of themselves
and/or others to release a cd and not their djing. Hmmm, I seemed to
have strayed far from topic, blah blah blah, but, I feel better to
get that off of my chest:P

I always thought that was kinda funny, the entertainment capitol of the
world has a two AM closing time. First time I went out there to visit my
sister, we were at a club and next thing know everyone is walking for the
doors. I'm like, what's up with this, and then she tells me they have 2AM
close time! Bummer. Kinda funny, in seeking to keep the drinking down,
they've succeeded in making people go to afterhours clubs until 6 when you
can drink again, there by increasing the drug use.

Gee, that worked real well.

No kidding. That's one of the few things I hate about California, the

Re: What's everyone listening to right now?

I liked this one much more than Attak. It has a lot better atmosphere
and groove to it. More similiar to the En Esch days. It has the feel
of albums Naive and Nihil.

BTW- What do mean by original copy? I have pretty much the entire
collection sans imports. Gunter was one my guitar influences, so I
pretty much worshipped KMFDM. Saw Slick Idiot earlier in the year and
they were pretty good. The club had some goons trying to start up a
mosh pit that kind of ruined the vibe.

Correction: a 2am PUBLIC closing time.
Like every other city with such rules,
LA goes on behind closed doors til the break of dawn.

I hated it there, by the way.

What to do when your licensing laws suck:
1.Get a bunch of likeminded free people you can trust to throws some
$$ together.
2.go buy 10kw of old poweramps build some speeker cabs and load them
up.
3.Hire a generator for a weekend.
4.Pick up plenty booze/refreshments/poisons.
5.Take it to the nearest hill out of town overlooking the city/town
(that has the shitty closing times).
6.Invite all local/interested party peeps, djs,artists,performers to
meet there on a friday night.
7.Let the BASS roll.
8.Watch the peeps converge like some thing outta close encounters of
the third kind.
9.Smile
10.Enjoy the party.

:P hest

Ditto, can't understand why people WANT to move there, when Northern
California is so much nicer...

Nothing like leaving LAX and still being over the city of LA for another
10 minutes....

Correction: a 2am PUBLIC closing time.
Like every other city with such rules,
LA goes on behind closed doors til the break of dawn.

I hated it there, by the way.

The first releases of Naive are all out of print, only the Naive "Hell To
Go" CDs are still available. Naive was the first industrial CD (err, it
was cassette when I heard it) I ever heard (I was a big Gunther fan too),
so I'd love to get a copy of this...

rEalm

BTW- What do mean by original copy? I have pretty much the entire
collection sans imports. Gunter was one my guitar influences, so I pretty
much worshipped KMFDM.

#11. Pay $25,000 fine for bing in violation of the Rave Act.

Re: [xl7] Re: What's everyone listening to right now?

2003-12-23 by Wesley D

The RAVE ACT = major BS. same with the patriot act. Bush is even trying to get rid of overtime for employees.

Why is it so easy for this type of legislation to purvey itself? I guess I'm really asking why are people so stupid and easily manipulated. Drugs need to be legal, and kids need to be taught about them, not just that they are bad. Anytime you make something taboo it becomes elusive and exiting, thus: tons of america's youth get WAY too into alcohol and drugs, when they otherwise may have only been a social drinker, and maybe puffed a little grass instead of getting into methamphetamines and other hard drugs. This lack of education is driving me crazy.

Charging and owner of a club for his patrons disregard for the law is wack.

www.ultraworld.net/fightthepower.html

good site outlining one promoters battle with the gov. to have good music and good fun.

bottom line = I work hard all week. I deserve to go out and stay out as late as I want listening to the music I like in my free time. No government has the right to tell me I have to go home at 2AM, or that I can't go out and listen to electronic music, becuase they've decided that no one can enjoy it without drugs.

We need to represent and quit allowing stupid people to ruin it for the rest of us. Hard drugs don't belong in public. Screw all these new laws that are stripping us of our basic freedoms one by one. Please people, spread the word, if enough people know the score then we will prevail. And it's not just the electronic scene that's in trouble, your right to have fun on the weekends is at stake, before long, I wouldn't be surprised to find the U.S. equivelent of Nazi Germany's S.S. men at the entrance to every neighborhood and apartment complex searching your vehicle and questioning your destination every time you leave the house. It could get that bad if we keep allowing the government to take freedom away from us in the very name of protecting it.

Sorry for the rant, but this is important. I feel like my hometown, Atl., has been shot and killed. it's like, happy new year, party's over, now go home, it's 2AM, and it's past your bedtime.
I am an adult and I like to drink, and I like to stay out late while I'm sobering up. Is that so wrong?

To everyone in the group. I encourage you to check out Fred Hammond
Presents: In Case You Missed it…and then some. This is the best mix of live
and electronic that I’ve heard. On any given song on the CD, drum machines
and synths are used to give the songs the extra edge but the live
instruments bring it all together. This is some nice production work. I
say the same fro the Israel – Real album. Tommy Sims (who has played Bass
with the best in all genres of music) produced the album. Tight, tight
production!

Sorry for the late reply. My copy is the Hell to Go version. I know
someone who might have the original. He is on a contract in Seattle
right now. So I won't able to confirm until around mid-Feb. If he
does, I will dupe you a copy.
