bill, i am not familiar w/mk6 sounds , but also needed a controller
for xl7 a couple weeks ago. bought the Halo which has an ensoniq
rom.this was 399$. no shipping charge ,no tax. they also had pk6 at
same price.( which has proteus rom, i believe.) So for the price i
got a great controller, which works flawlessly w/ xl7 and another
rom.if either of these roms fit your needs it may be an option. hope
this helps, let me know if you have specific questions about roms, i
also have tscy, and protozoa roms. also does anyone know if i can
take the rom out of halo, put it in xl7 and use halo as just a empty
controller.( so i dont have to bring halo to gig)

The Halo, PK-6, MK-6, etc-6 look like they are all the same
keyboard, with just different ROMs in them.

The XK-6 has (allegedly) the same ROM as the XL-7. The MK-6 as the
MP-7. You can start to see the pattern.

How are the sounds on the Halo? Are they geared toward any
particular 'style' of music making, or just kind of general use
stuff? How's the feel of the keys?

MK-6 sounds are the same as the MP-7 sounds plus an extra bank. They
have similar but not identical presets to the Mo'Phatt/Pure Phatt ROM
(though they have the same instruments/waveforms).

Yes.

Thanks Aaron!

Next question, is it safe to assume that the base waveforms of the
stock XL-7 ROM/XK-6 ROM are different from the base waveforms of the
MP-7/MK-6/Pure Phatt/Mo'Phatt?

Thanks rEalm! That's what I figured.

Could you recommend a ROM with a nice piano sound?

Bill – the PK-6 has the same sounds as the Proteus Pop Collection ROM.
There are fairly well. If you go with this board, it might be helpful to
get a ZR ROM. Other options, consider the Roland RS series. They have
great control features, killer sounds, and they are fairly affordable.
However, I am not sure if they are upgradeable. Check it out before you
buy. If you already have a command station, you would just be getting more
E-mu. The Roland environments are fairly easy. Just my opinion to help you
make great music.

Re: controllers

2003-11-28 by buggoutbill

Thanks Rev P.

I have an old Roland synth now (S-10), and I love it's action & feel.
But two keys have started to get flakey on me. And I was looking at
getting another ROM for my XL-7, so I started looking at the xK-6's.
Don't need a sequencer (got the computer/XL-7 for that). I would like
to get another Roland or the Triton Le, but they are a little more
than I wanted to spend.
If it helps, the new Roland RS's are not expandable, but you can
supposedly edit the voices.
