how do I ?

how do I ?

2003-11-21 by sounddaddy@comcast.net

I have a buddy w a yamaha xx-7000 ... he brings over sequences and I lock up with mp-7 and turn OFF re-channelize input and re-mix like crazy with sounds from the MP-7 usindg his sequences ...

QUESTION IS ... how do I record his sequences into the MP-7.... If I hit record or set up external song start and hit play on his machine it will only record on 1 track ... aklthough all 16 of his sequencer track seem to goto my 1 track ...

How do I get his tracks to record onto my 16 discreet channel A tracks,

  Thanks !!

Go to midi, make sure that your re-channelize input is on record and that
your midi receive is on the A channels. Also, you will probably need to
make a multi-setup in global: choosing the sounds you want on the 16 A
channels and then saving them in the global user area as a new setup.
Please save it, otherwise the sounds will not be the ones you want. Also,
make sure the rest of your MIDI info is transmitting to MIDI A and not MIDI
B.

Have a great day - it took me a week to figure this one out. You enjoy the
benefits of my long hours of confusion.but victory!

Thank You Sir !!! ... I can't wait 'till he comes back to try it !! ... This will enable me to tweak his sequences while he isn't here.. Thanks Again !!

One other Q .... Do I need to stop record in time to prevent it from writing over itself ?...And also ...If I use ....enable midi song start ....to record his sequences will the first notes be clipped ?

Actually, that'll work for playback, but not for recording the MIDI
from the 7000. Turn rechannelize OFF, go to track 1, set it to
"MultiA" (on the next to last screen in the Pattern menu), use MIDI
sync (set tempo to ext on the XL, and transmit on the 7000), and record
away.

You'll then have the sequence all on track 1. If you copy that track
to the clipboard, you can then erase track 1 and "explode tracks" to
break out the original channels onto individual tracks. Save.

For ease of use, you can just set the length to the max (32 bars)
andpress record on the xl-7 (just record, not play) and then press
start on the other sequencer. It should start the xl-7 automatically.
Set it to the correct length when you're done. That way it won't loop
around and start merging with the data at the beginning.

Set the Recording count in to the "little note symbol", and then press
Edit + Record. This will put you in Record Replace mode, set up to be
triggered by Note Activity.

Yeah, I have no idea what all that means either, but with this method, you
can continously record without overwriting what you previously did when
the pattern loops. Provided you don't play any notes after it loops that
is. I use this all the time, best way to record in loop mode IMO.

Re: [xl7] how do I ?

2003-11-25 by Oscar Finch

Ok here's what you SHOULD do.
I own both an MP-7 and RS7000.
Set the Mp as master / RS as slave .
Set the MP/XL to recieve start stop commands.
Make sure the correct send midi clock protocol is on in the RS ans set midi echo thru to off.
Now set up the blank pattern in the MP7 track 1 .
Make sure it is the same meter and pattern length of the corresponding RS7000 Style section.
Put the RS into overdub record mode and set loop to off.
Hit play on the Command station.
The RS7000 will play till section end (one run through only).
It will stop sending an auto stop command from the RS7000.
Then paste to clipboard and explode tracks assign voices and save etc etc etc ....
Works for me anyway. ;)
