how i fixed an xl7 for 66 cents

hello, ... xl7 user for 2 years, have kids, fly frequently = busted
gear!
thank you e-mu for being so straightforward in your component layout -
i literally know nothing about electronics but I can fix one of
these!!!!!!!

bad call for using what is considered in electronic component shops
in barcelona as " antique parts"!!!!!!

ok i'll explain... Watch out when you have to fly with this machine
in the baggage hold: precautionary measures of base level consist of
this: be sure to take off the plastic knob covering the volume pot to
ensure that the nut is still relatively tight before flying anywhere
in the world . - failure to do so will result in the volume dial
circuit breaking thus leaving your machine with little or no sound
across the 6 outputs!!!!

thats what just happened to me.*
also I hasten to add that the exact piece for the volume dial is very
very difficult to get hold of ( at least in spain)..

so here's what we did:1. open the machine from behind. 2. undo all
the nuts surrounding the headphone jack and the volume dial.
3.a 10 kilo ohm variable resistor pot will do just fine regardless of
the length 5 file it down) but be sure to find one of the right
width; you 'over the atlantic ' types will find this in " radio
shack", germans among you should go to " conrad" knowwhat i mean?

chances are that the 3 solderable pins won't fit into the holes on
the breadboard - attach wires and connect those instead - makes it
easier to repair if ever this happens again.

reconnect everything and put the machine back together. apply a tiny
drop of exopy hardener to the nut of th volume dial where it touches
the outer cover of the machine, this will give it airplane baggage
hold proof protection.

hope that helps anyone in similar position before sending their
machines away and wasting weeks without them.
