ROM choices and what not

ROM choices and what not

2003-11-18 by MADTIM

Hey y'all,

So I have an mp7, and I'm looking to get an extra ROM. I
have an Alesis QS that I use as a controller and for the bread and
butter patches, pianos, strings, organs, etc. Thing is, its a pain
to set up the mix on the thing every time I want to use a particular
pattern. I was thinking of getting a Sounds of the ZR ROM, and
using that for the those patches instead of the Alesis. Is that ROM
good? You think that would be too much duplication? Thanks

Sorry no real advice for you on that, but I was also about to post a
rom question when I saw this, so I thought I would add it to your
thread. I am trying to decide on an orchestral rom to round out my
collection. I am considering the Siedlaczek. I will only have room
for one, any thoughts on this as compared to the orch. vols.?

I don't have the Zr rom either, but got the Pop for the same reason
(I have a QS8). I found that the Strings, Piano, & Organs are better
on the QS... If the ZR turns to work out for you please let me know,
I still have an empty slot in my XL-7...

I haven't tried the other orchestral roms, but I got the
Siedlaczek one last week and it's pretty great. Good variety of
sounds, and some spectacular strings sounds for a rompler! On a semi
related note, the World Expedition rom is mighty handy as well. Huge
variety!

Let me give my opinion on the ZR. I think its great to have it because of
the GM option. It allows you use other sequences in the .MID format. Also,
Cloakley’s piano patches are absolutely incredible (if you are a serious
player). Some of the color and Background sounds are OK. As far as the
Proteus Pop, I use it as support for my Roland sounds which are a little
stronger although the ZR , Mo Phat and Pop have more to offer in synth bass,
drums, and percussions.

Huge

Agreed, I have the world as well. I'm looking for a stronger string
section. I think I will go with the Siedlaczeck. By the way is there
a pattern set for the world?

Not that I've found. I'd be interested in one as well. And as for
the Siedlaczeck, it's quite the awesome :)
