Does anyone have a method to perform a cymbal roll without retriggering the attack? Real instrument examples are a crash cymbal roll that starts out quiet and gets louder, or a ride that just makes a continuous ringing when a roll is performed with a soft mallet.

You could sample it, or use a computer. Or if you're trying to do it live you could in theory build a kit and stack the same cymbal sample on a whole bunch of different keys, and devote that one channel to cymbals. I think that's what you're talking about right? getting it to play again without restarting the original sample? --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! A "real" cymbal roll WOULD retrigger the attack though, so why do you need
this aspect?

I'm thinking we want to trigger the attack of the next cymbal hit, but not cut of the previous one. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! Mail AddressGuard [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

A real cymbal roll would not retrigger the attack if a soft mallet was used. An example is a crash cymbal that is hit softly at first with a gradual creshendo to full volume within one bar or so. I was in high school band and this effect was used in many songs! I hear it a lot in techno too... --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, erik_magrini@B... wrote: > A "real" cymbal roll WOULD retrigger the attack though, so why do you need > this aspect? > > rEalm > > > > > > puzzlelounge <puzzlelounge@y...> > 11/17/2003 10:54 PM > Please respond to xl7 > > > To: xl7@yahoogroups.com > cc: > Subject: [xl7] Cymbal roll > > > Does anyone have a method to perform a cymbal roll without > retriggering the attack? Well, you take the gun to a pawnshop... then go to the Conservatory's Perc Dept and ask politely if you can rent a room... :P --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, erik_magrini@B... wrote: > Please do :) > > rEalm > > > > > > sincultura13 <sincultura13@y...> > 11/18/2003 04:17 PM > Please respond to xl7 > > > To: xl7@yahoogroups.com > cc: > Subject: [xl7] Re: Cymbal roll > > > I have a better way.... Use Velocity (or Mod Wheel or...)->SampleStart to trim the attack, and use the Melody(last) solo mode so the envelopes don't retrigger. Give it plenty of release on both filter and amp envelopes. Haven't tried it myself but this should give you a starting point.
