World Expedition

World Expedition

2003-11-05 by Jacob Talkington

I do mostly electronic, but most of it is trance-based, so a
variety of sounds is always useful. I recently purchased the SZ
Orchestral ROM (currently anxiously awaiting its arrival) and am
considering also getting the World Expedition. Would anyone like to
comment on it? Does it have a thumb piano sample? Vocals?

  Thanks :)

I've had World Expedition for a couple years, and it's my favorite ROM.

Thumb Piano is the first patch in Bank 3.

No specifically voc: or vox: patches, by name.

The preset catagories (By the way, have I ever mentioned how much I
love the category function on these devices? Otherwise the presets
would be impossible to keep track of! And all my home-made ones I
give a "jjN:" category, with N being a digit or letter.) include:

arp:
bas:
bow: (lots of neat ones!)
bts:
cmb:
kit:
pad:
plk: (plucked, not polka)
pr1: (hand or stick drums)
pr2:
pr3:
pr4: (tuned percussion)
wnd: (wind, not wind-up)
whs: (whistle)
sfx:

At http://www.ampcast.com/music/5560/music.php , my track
"Procedural" features the ROM.

I would most appreciate your comments and
impressions with the ROM after you get it.

Please post to the list!

thanks in advance,

Will do. Sweetwater tells me it should be about a week before I
get it.

I have been looking to get a World ROM, but I have noticed that it
is not listed on EMU's site anymore. The Music vendors I usually buy
from are all out of them as well.
Has EMU stopped maing the World ROM?

World ROM has several thumb pianos (clear, buzz and bass) and other
tuned percussion, lots of varied perc and knick knacks of African,
Asian and Brazilian, Cuban/Puerto Rican (Salsa) descent, weird drums
(not tabla though) unusual string and wind instruments, whistles and
bells. Keyboard Mag gave it a great review altho they have reorganized
their archive so you must do a search to find it. Emu does not
advertize it as available but it is available.

enjoy it!
