Is this what I'm looking for????

Is this what I'm looking for????

2003-10-10 by lampmeister

Hi ppl, I'm a newbie here, so please forgive the question.

I've tried a Yamaha QY700 and RM1X for live work and they both are
not up to what I want to do.

All I'm after is a RELIABLE sequencer which will allow me to change
patterns, mute tracks and assign knobs to different parameters
(internal and external) for live funky techno.

Does the MP/XL cut the mustard???
What are its quirks. Are there workarounds for these?
Will it stand up to live work?

I read in 'Sound on sound' that the knobs and assignable buttons are
generic rather than pattern specific. Is this a problem? Also does
the software it comes with work on Mac OSX.2.x???

Info very much appreciated,
Cheers y'all.

Hi,

the most live sequencers are coming from Korg Electribe, the XX-7 has no
solo buttons, the XX-7 requires
a lot of preprogramming and a lot of learning about their architecture. With
the XX-7 you can programm
lot of tracks.

About this list:
I´m not sure about what most people on this list are talking about,
sometimes I think they search of a
knob called Hip Hop or Techno on the XX-7, hmmm, wrong way...
You can do alot wthth the XL-7 Lead rom, creating vintage synthesizeres,
amazing soundscapes, nearly
every style you want, but it don´t works if you are using the preprogrammed
presets.

I for one belive that the xx-7 alongside a sampler (preferably a soft
sampler) and a va synth is the ultimate setup. I love to make funky techno
on mine( along with hip hop and trip hop and trip rock). I cant really think
of a standalone instrument more aptly suited for this genre. forget about
the qy-700 and especially the rm1x. I am no gear basher I considered all of
these units but determind it would take a room full of gear to make the
music I want on these. If its unique sounds you intended to get, get the
emu. Im sure yamaha has some decent soundsets on the qy but with the emu you
can get that and way, way more without having to use tons of outboard gear.
I plan on filling every rom space on my mp-7. The sequencer is tight where
you need it and lose where it should be. It does take some getting use to
but youll love getting use to it. If you like the bigger screen sequencers
you should check out the ( I cant belive Im saying this) roland MC-909 that
looks like a solid bit of gear if thats what you need. Track mute is simple
and its really the only way I work. Changing patters is as intuative as your
willing to make. I cant comment on the assignable knobs or buttons but as I
need them they are sure to do the trick... because thats what they're there
for right. cant comment on macs but I wish I could.

>>>The XX-7's will definitely do this, and do it very well. XMIX is a new
feature in OS2.0 and will chaneg teh way you play live, it's that good.
Download the manual for more info on this feature, or look in the FAQ. <<<

Does the MP/XL cut the mustard???

>>>No, but it will fork the ketchup. Are there workarounds for these? <<<

What are its quirks.

>>>>Hmmm, a quirk pretty much depends on the user, but here's a few that
might hold you off:
- No track solo, but easy enough to do with the Mutes.
- Can't preview quantize or transpose settings in real-time, but almost
everything else can be done in real-time.
- Patterns can only be 32 measures long, but song mode goes to 999
measures. <<<

Will it stand up to live work?

>>>This is a set I did with the XL-7, 100% love. You tell me if it holds
up:

E-loader and Mac OSX.2.x

2003-10-22 by Dave Killingback

Hi,
Anyone any idea if E-loader and all the other
E-mu command station software is Mac OSX compatible,
or will run under classic in OSX???

If not this might tip me in the direction of an Akai
MPC 1000.

Many thanks,

Dave K.
