So, I just opened up the machine and rechecked the connections. I
also relocated the sound rom to another ram slot, just to see if that
would make a difference. Additionally, I am trying to reload OS 2
for completeness sake, although I am still getting these rather
annoying errors where the download just fails with no rhyme or
reason. I will keep posting results of my diff. experiments here for
your perusal. If nothing else, it might be valuable info to have for
future owners of this machine. I am totally resolved in owning a
stable xl-7 come hell or high water.

Yeah man, sounds like you may have a bum unit or something. Most of us
have nothing but stable use since OS2, so I don't think it's an OS issue
in your case. What kind of problems are you still seeing?

It really sounds like you have a bad machine. If the OS loads *at all*
it is good. It checksums every packet it downloads as well as
checksumming the whole OS. Intermittent failures that go away
temporarily by reseating chips indicates a hardware problem.

Where did you buy it? Do you have some sort of warrantee?

Well, I bought it from a company off of ebay, which I admit is a
risky situation, but one that usually works out for me. They do,
however, have a 7 day money back deal, so I emailed today asking
about that. It would be really nice if they just had another machine
they could send me as a replacement, since I am deadset on owning
this machine. All my engineering friends here at school have all
said the same thing, that it's a hardware issue.

Frustrating,

I hope this does work for you! I purchased my MP-7 on E-bay. I love it and
have had no trouble with it yet! Hold the E-bay seller accountable. Let us
know how it turns out!

Hi Rev,

I am glad that you didn't get the bum deal I got, and I hope your mp-
7 continues to work flawlessly. It's all right tho, because the
seller just got back to me saying sorry and to send it back for a
full refund, so it's all good. It just makes me mad because I got
this thing for $400, which is a hard price to find this unit for.
Ahh well, if anyone is selling theirs or knows where i can get one
for 400 (either the xl-7 or mp-7 will do), I would appreciate you
letting me know.

thanks guys and I will keep you posted!
