Pure Phat Rom in XL-7

Pure Phat Rom in XL-7

2003-08-25 by Justin Grimley

Hi,
I want to convert my XL7 into an MP7, and just wanted to check which
ROM I need to get. I found the Pure Phatt rom on ebay here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?
ViewItem&item=2552611096&category=1287

... but I remember reading here that there are different versions of
this ROM. Basically, I want to install the ROM, wipe all the XL7
patterns, install the MP7 patterns, and have a virtual MP7. Anything
I need to look out for?
Thanks,
grimley

I asked this question a few weeks ago without reply. This was covered
last year but I could not find the old topic. I seem to remember that
the Mo Phatt and the MP-7 ROM is slightly different and you need the
MP-7 ROM if you want to import the patterns without having to match
up all the patches to the pattern tracks manually. I finally gave up
and opted for a used MP-7. Maybe someone can clear this up.

Yes.

Was there any more to this question?

Actually, this one's covered pretty regularly. Anyway, no, the Pure
Phatt ROM is not an MP-7 ROM. The presets are different, as are the
IDs that identify the ROM. You can download user presets that map MP-7
presets to the Pure Phatt ROM, but the factory MP-7 patterns will not
play unless you manually reassign every program change...

If you need to order a new ROM anyway, then I would just suggest making
sure they send you an MP-7 one, should work fine then. To be honest
though I can't guarantee it, when these conversations come up here on the
list, they don't really pertain to my use, so I kinda gloss over them,
sorry. :(

This is all very confusing ... thank gawd I checked here before I
made the purchase. The MP7 rom is not even listed on the accessories
page for the XL7 on the EMU site. Actually, the "wrong" rom IS
listed (eg. the same one I found on eBay).
