There's no recorded sequence, but I'm hoping the tracks (with a preset that I associate with them) will be there so I can play them performance style as one would a keyboard. Here's the deal: Tracks 1-8 go into the main mixer tracks 9-16 are routed to a submixer that puts them into a Repeater along with other instruments (mainly guitar) I get the sequence going and record a simple groove into the Repeater. The Repeater's main strength is that it can sync the audio loop to a MIDI clock so my loop will be locked in, even if I change my tempo. Neat trick. I can also vary the pitch of my loop keeping it still synced to the MIDI clock. So now I have XL-7 playing drums and say a guitar and bass (I can layer and get 2 stereo tracks for 4 mono tracks on the Repeater) Now, I want to loop some synth stuff, so I switch the XL-7 to say track 6 and then either using it's pads or a MIDI keyboard I play the part. I'm mainly a guitarist, but some things like organs and painos don't work that well. So say I have my first Repeater stereo pair doing guitar and bass and now I have an organ riff going on the second pair of tracks. The cool thing is I can set the feedback to less than 100% and slowly replace what I'm playing while all the time muting and unmuting XL- 7 tracks 1-8. Here's an example of what it all sounds like (with an Roland MC-307) http://www.zerocrossing.net/mp3s/mark_maria12_02_edit.mp3 This is all done live with my friend Maria on vocals. The only thing that's pre- recorded are the drums. This was all easy with the 307 but now it looks like it might be trickier with the XL-7. I guess I'm going to have to record some unused cc everytime I want an empty track with a sound loaded up on it. Mark Sottliaro
